 We are looking for a dynamic design drafter to join the Equipment Design Group of Duracell, located in LaGrange, Georgia.  In this role, you will collaborate with engineers to create technical designs for production equipment. You'll use 2D (Draftsight) and 3D (Solidworks) CAD systems to modify existing and create new models and drawings of mechanical systems. Working in our document management system, you will assure that equipment documents are kept up to date and available to the production team.  As a design drafter, you will support the Duracell Engineering vision that “We Turn Ideas into Reality”.
 

Position Description: 

Basic design needs and ideas will generally be provided by engineers and production personnel, and you will be asked to work out the details needed to bring these ideas to life.  Design requests will come from a variety of needs; improving reliability or maintenance of existing equipment, adding new functionality to existing equipment and creating new equipment to accomplish a needed task.  The ability to communicate and work with a variety of people at all levels of the organization is critical.  Obtaining input, communicating design ideas and accepting critical input from team members is essential.  Training and coaching others in the use of our documentation tools will be a core responsibility.

To ensure success as a design drafter, you should be able to use design principles to create technical drawings that will be used in machine shops and equipment builders to manufacture and assemble parts from your documentation.  The ability to read, interpret and create orthographic views of an object is a necessity.   Dimensions and tolerances must be applied according to industry and Duracell standards.  A general understanding of basic machining techniques and applicable tolerances is needed to create meaningful drawings.   Familiarity with both imperial and metric units of measure is required.  A working familiarity of industrial commercial components such as gearboxes, belts and pulleys, bearings, motors, electronic sensors, small scale pumps, fittings, air cylinders and valves is a requirement for completing designs. 

Creating and managing 3D assembly models requires an understanding of model architecture; top-level assemblies, sub-assemblies, and parts, and the ability to analyze the design and determine an appropriate architecture for long-term model reapplication and support of production needs.

Responsibilities: 

• Collecting critical inputs required for designs, such as production rates, maintenance needs, access requirements, material selections, etc.
• Creating diagrams and layouts to illustrate design concepts.
• Collaborating with the design team to review drawings and designs.
• Making adjustments to drawings according to feedback from engineers or production personnel
• Ensuring designs comply with company regulations and quality standards.
• Assisting other designers and engineers in use of CAD tools to allow them to complete their own design work.

Requirements: 

• 2 year Associate Engineering or Tech-school degree in a related field.
• At least 2 years’ experience as a design drafter or a similar role.
• Advanced knowledge of CAD software, drawing programs, and 3D modeling tools, such as Solidworks, AutoCAD or equivalent.
• Basic math and analytical skills.
• The ability to meet tight deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
