POSITION SUMMARY:

Accountable for developing systems, analyzing data and administering policies regarding all aspects of the Company's product cost activities (standard costing, actual overhead absorption's and variance analysis), including but not limited to, current activities, historical analysis or future projections.  This role functions as a business partner to the plant and financial management teams and supports the Director of Finance in the development and maintenance of manufacturing costs.  The Cost Accountant analyzes daily and monthly production reporting, as well as supports the annual budgeting process.  This person will assess and analyze complex data to enable accurate apportionment of costs and to maximize profitability.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, studies and collects data to determine cost of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor and then analyzes data obtained and records results
  • Works with the Engineering team to analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided to determine the effect on costs
  • Works with Operations and Engineering to ensure accurate and up to date BOMs and routings
  • Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares monthly and quarterly reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
  • Performs cost observations on manufactured products and field services to validate cost assumptions for material, labor and overhead
  • Provides management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services
  • Sustains and helps develop new cost accounting systems
  • Supports physical inventories and cycle count process
  • Appraises and evaluates real property or equipment for sale, acquisition or tax purposes
  • Maintains fixed asset ledgers and depreciation schedules
  • Maintains construction in progress files and updated individual projects files monthly
  • Assists with monthly closing
  • Cross-trains in general accounting functions
  • Assist the Finance Team to focus on the three operational priorities Safety, Quality and Productivity

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • EDUCATION: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with 3-5 years related experience
  • EXPERIENCE:  Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and speak effectively before groups
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume
  • Able to work proactively in a principle centered culture
  • Computer skills; excellent MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), as well as a solid understanding of ERP/MRP systems and Kanban. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Stand, walk or be mobile for up to an eight-hour shift; ascend, push and pull up to 20 pounds, bend, twist and reach.
