What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lower School Academic Coach position at Durham Academy?

Durham Academy (DA) is accepting applications for a part-time Lower School Academic Coach (approximately 10-15 hours a week) for the 2023-2024 academic school year. Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field and experience in an elementary school setting.

The Academic Coach will be responsible for providing supplemental reading, writing, and math instruction for students in first through fourth grades. This position is ideal for the education professional with classroom experience looking to work collaboratively with teachers and families to provide one-on-one or small-group instruction for students who benefit from direct and systemic instruction to support the attainment of grade-level curriculum. This position reports to the Lower School Learning Specialist. Interested applicants should email a cover letter, resume, and a list of three references to Danielle.Wysenski@da.org. Specific Responsibilities Include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field.
  • Experience working with children ages 6-9, in an educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge base in the areas of learning differences, ADHD, and executive functioning skills.
  • Deep knowledge of early intervention, assessment, and research-based practices in reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Ability to collaborate with DA’s Learning Specialist, teachers, and families.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A very high level of energy, creativity, flexibility, and sense of humor.
