Reporting to our Corporate Controller and serving on the executive team, the Assistant Corporate Controller will assist in driving key accounting and administrative functions to ensure that Corporate Traffic has the financial model needed to continue the organization’s success and expansion. The Assistant Corporate Controller will possess strong financial acumen, enabling them to serve as a partner, coach, mentor and manager to their direct reports.

The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with strong interpersonal skills and an eye for the continuous improvement of organizational finances and the team. Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the accounting department; hires, trains, directs, and evaluates employee performance within the department; recommends promotions/transfers and salary adjustments.
  • Reviews work and provides advice to subordinates on policies, procedures, practices, and problems.
  • Indirect supervision of Facilities; oversee supply orders and building maintenance
  • Oversee the reconcilement and entry of daily cash receipts and preparation of bank deposits.
  • Co-direct the development and implementation of software applications to create efficiencies and cutting-edge strategic planning and budgets, with a focus on the overall financial success of the organization
  • Oversee accounts payable functions to include file maintenance of vendors, maintenance of vendor files, and processing weekly check AP payments.
  • Manage client billing team to ensure clients are billed and vendors are paid timely
  • Reconcile operational systems to accounting system (Great Plains)
  • Prepare and enter daily, weekly and/or monthly journal and adjusting entries
  • Prepare and post bi-weekly payroll journal.
  • Manage cash flow and promptly notify the CFO of any issues related to cash flow.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and all supporting schedules for organization and individual departments.
  • Develop budgets and maintain/analyze forecasts
  • Maintain allocation spreadsheets as needed for monthly expenses
  • Be fully cross trained as a backup to maintain employee payroll records, PTO balances and processing of bi-weekly payroll
  • Oversee the preparation of periodic federal, state and local tax and payroll returns
  • Supervise the processing of all accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger transactions.
  • Maintain asset and liability accounts and perform all account reconciliations, including bank, AR, AP, Fixed Assets, Prepaids and Loans/Leases
  • Maintain current accounting records for all fund-raising activities
  • Serve as staff support for the annual audit, providing all necessary financial data and schedules
  • Analyze on an ongoing basis existing operation for cost containment
  • Assist in maintaining insurance coverage for all business areas, including general liability, building, automobile, directors and officers, employment practices, professional liability, excess liability and workers compensation.
  • Manage annual workers compensation and general liability insurance audits
  • Accountable for the entire revenue and cost cycles; maintain performance records of account earnings, costs and estimated income
  • Manage department personnel including performance management, compensation, recruitment, hiring, and termination
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports in compliance with GAAP; ensure complete/accurate financial, statistical, and accounting records
  • Oversees reporting to regulatory authorities and manages IRS, State, Lender and other audits
  • Works with auditors/examiners on year-end and comprehensive audits.
  • Formulates and executes policy with Corporate Controller
  • Oversees travel and expense process, including receipt management disbursement, and employee travel expenditures through American Express and Concur
  • Provides safekeeping, control and accounting for assets, ensures against fraud
  • Keep abreast of accounting system upgrades
  • Keep abreast of GAAP standards as they relate to the transportation industry and financial reporting

What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelors in Accounting or Finance - required
  • Master’s degree in related field preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Minimum of three years in accounting and financial reporting
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger and chart of accounts
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Previous work with outside auditors, tax accountants and attorneys
  • Heavy working knowledge of Accounts Payable and Vendor Management
  • Heavy working knowledge of Accounts Receivable, Client Management and Collections
  • Treasury Management and Fraud Mitigation
  • Multi-currency knowledge
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Previous payroll experience required
  • Must demonstrate competency in applications and systems integrations
  • Prefer proven experience in Great Plains, Concur, and Paylocity (or other payroll application)
  • Ability to quickly learn and use new software applications; manage software implementations
  • Strong project management and development/use of metrics
  • Ability to multi-task and to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills; team player with a positive, can-do approach
  • Positive telephone, email, and other communication skills as contact with clients and vendors will be extensive
  • Office administration
  • Assist on emergency preparedness team
