What are the responsibilities and job description for the Polymer Chemist position at E Ink?
E Ink California, LLC is seeking a Polymer Chemist to join the R&D team. You will be responsible for sourcing, formulating and testing polymeric materials/composites to achieve advanced performance in electrophoretic displays. You will support scientists to handle a variety of laboratory work and are expected to be detail-oriented, complete tasks in a systemic fashion, committed to deliver and remain flexible when other priorities arise.
Responsibilities:
- Source polymers and other materials with the desired properties and handle lab-scale chemical processes including weighing, mixing, heating, filtering, pumping, vacuum-degassing, etc.
- Formulate liquid mixtures of solvents, particles, and polymers, etc., and optimize compounding processes to provide desired functions
- Make film stacking structures with bench-top coating and lamination equipment
- Operate laboratory instruments to characterize physical, mechanical, electrical and chemical properties, such as viscosity, particle size, pH, sheet resistance, adhesion and particle morphology
- Establish quality control test methods and establish scale-up
- Transfer the test methods and scale-up to the manufacturing facility and also provide documentation and training
- Input data into the database and propose correlation with electrophoretic display performance
- Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, and work safely in the lab, adhering to EH&S best practices
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree with at least 2 years’ experience in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field
- Hands-on experience handling chemicals, fluid preparation, mixing processes, and testing
- Knowledge of polymeric materials and a good understanding of structure-property relationships
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Able to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Self-motivated team player with a desire to learn new skills
