What are the responsibilities and job description for the QA Coating Inspector position at E2 Consulting Engineers, Inc.?
The Coating QA Inspector will be an integral part of an inspection team that performs duties for inspecting line pipe, fittings, valves, or related components as it relates to the pipeline industry in a manufacturing environment or field environment on an on-call, as-needed basis. Inspectors will be responsible for performing visual inspections and validating tests performed by a QC inspector as well as documenting these results daily. Inspections may be performed on piping components prior to, in-process, or following coating operations.
Coating QA Inspectors will need to be able to comprehend API, NACE, and ASTM Specifications, Client Specifications, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), Manufacturing Procedure Specifications and be able to apply them to the material or product being inspected.
Responsibilities:- Review the applicable coating system specifications
- Initiate the qualification of surface preparation
- Ensure the readiness of the QA/QC requirements are met before start of coating application
- Initiate inspection requests for client’s monitoring inspections.
- Ensure the calibration/validation of blasting/coating Equipment, tools, etc.
- Monitor environmental conditions, including but not limited to: ambient temperature, dew point, relative humidity.
- Monitor curing operations
- Perform visual inspections as needed
- Validate WFT, DTF results performed by QC inspector.
- Validate Holiday testing of coated components
- Monitor and inspect for handling damage
- Witness and document all repairs
- Prepare the inspection reports, internal NCR’s, etc.
Minimum:
- 3 years’ experience required in related field of piping or fittings or valve with coating and logistics.
- NACE/AMPP CIP Level 2 or 3.
- Fundamental knowledge of ASTM coating specifications as it relates to piping material
- Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Desired:
- 5 years’ experience required in related field of piping or fittings or valve with coating and logistics.
- Proficient with computers and portable electronic tablets and supporting software applications, such as Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of quality assurance terminology, methods, and tools.
- Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of testing best practices, version control practices and defect management practices.

- Able to perform in both inside and outside environmental conditions in all four seasons throughout the continental United States – extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit) and/or extreme heat (temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit) for periods of more than one hour
- Ability to sense potentially dangerous situations on a construction site, including hearing heavy machinery and vehicle back-up alarms
