East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Maintenance Repairman 1 to work in the Boiler Plant and Facilities Management Department! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. As the Maintenance Repairman 1, you will perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair work in the building, mechanical or electrical trades. You will be an active member of the Facilities Management team and will work in a variety of trades at the sub-journey level in the maintenance and repair of public buildings and equipment. Your work will involve minor repair jobs of a routine nature, which are carried out with only general supervision, or more advanced work assisting a journey level skilled tradesman or foreman in regular trades maintenance jobs. Supervision is received from a maintenance supervisor who assigns work, inspects work and progress, reviews reports, and inspects work upon completion.
Your regular shift will be Monday through Friday from 7am - 3pm. You may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Maintenance Repairman. What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
- Responsible for maintaining proper steam pressure and water levels and for making minor adjustments and repairs to the boilers and auxiliary equipment and maintenance of campus buildings and equipment. Work involves routine repairs, adjustments, service, cleaning and inspection of mechanical devices, plumbing and electrical devices, walls, doors, windows, and other campus facilities.
- Assist in keeping simple and accurate records of steam production and fuel consumption. Respond to notifications, changes and alarms that indicate impending difficulties in steam generation in boiler plant.
- Perform minor preventative maintenance duties including, re-packing valves, pumps and fittings, changing or cleaning all filters, pumps, fans, cabinet heaters, air handlers, unit vents, compressors, valves and other mechanical devices essential to smooth operation of boiler plant and campus;
- Oil, lubricate, adjust and perform preventative maintenance on electric motors, Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on various types of HVAC and heating and cooling equipment, and repair and replace light switches, receptacles, and light fixtures. Change light bulbs and clean light diffusers on both interior and exterior fixtures.
- Repair or replace leaking faucets and toilets; clear and unclog sink, toilet, and shower drains, clean mechanical devices, discharge and return air grills, covers and housings of equipment.
- Perform other duties as necessary to ensure proper maintenance of equipment.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
- Two years of experience in general maintenance work which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.
- One year as a Utility Plant Helper or one year of comparable boiler plant and HVAC maintenance experience. Preferred one year of experience performing semi-skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional boiler plant systems and related equipment required.
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler plant systems and related equipment. Knowledge of flows, pressure, and capacity of water tanks and lines and knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the boiler trade.
- Ability to understand work from general instructions and specifications and to follow blueprints and sketches, lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions, and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
