What are the responsibilities and job description for the DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL/ DRIVER position at Easter Seals DC MD VA?
Working Schedule:
Monday-Friday (9am-5pm)
Position Summary:
The Direct Support Professional/Driver is responsible for assisting participants with activities of daily living (ADL) managing the food service, and conducting group and individual activities. Depending on the center, the Activity Leader may also be a Driver and provide transportation to/from the center.
- Devise monthly program activities utilizing staff and community resources. Present to the Plan and conduct group and individual activities.
- Provide input and support to the Activities Director.
- Assist with the preparation and serving of snacks.
- Assist with the preparation and serving of lunch.
- Assist Activities Director with field trips (planning, accompanying, and driving)
- Assist participants with Activities of Daily Living (toileting, ambulation, transfers, feeding, changing clothes, showers).
- Assist participants boarding and exiting vans.
- Observe participants for change in condition and report to the Health Director.
- Contribute to the maintenance of the Center’s neat, clean, and safe environment.
- Attend and meaningfully contribute to regular Center Staff meetings and activity staff meetings.
- Maintain client confidentiality.
- Depending on the center, also act as a Driver to provide transportation for participants to and from the Center in Easter Seals vehicles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- GED or high school diploma. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license preferred.
- Two or more years of experience working with seniors and/or adults with functional impairments.
- Current Class C/non-commercial driver’s license in good standing (annually reviewed) if required to drive Easter Seals vehicles
- Current CPR and First Aid.
- Ability to deal with and manage physical and cognitive impairments of participants boarding and exiting the vans.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and interact positively with participants, families, care providers, employees, colleagues, community referral sources, and the general community.
- Ability to follow instructions quickly and easily with minimal supervision, and seek out direction promptly. Ability to take initiative and problem-solve.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.
- Aware of potential hazards or problems within the environment and seek out supervision promptly. Report issues, successes, and concerns promptly to Activity Director.
- Work as a team member with Center Management.
- Work collaboratively with all center staff.
- Aware of confidentiality of client information.

- Able to maneuver various pathways for entry/exit into locations.
- Able to lift, carry and move a variety of items such as supplies, equipment, therapy equipment, and supplies, approximately 50lbs or less.
