What are the responsibilities and job description for the Master Designer position at Eaton Corporation?

Eaton’s Power Components Division is currently seeking a Master Designer to join our team. This position is based at our Moon Township, PA location.


Position Overview:

Deliver successful new product designs by performing mechanical and electro-mechanical design using Creo 7.0 and simulation tools as a member of the Design Services Team. Includes 3D concept modeling, detailed product design under the guidance of project engineers, analysis and creating detailed drawing specification packages for manufacturing.

In this function you will:


  • Create robust, flexible, and maintainable 3D models of parts and assemblies, supporting department engineering project team. Understand customer requirements and perform 3D modeling and simulation of design concepts to compare, evaluate and select concepts for development.
  • Participate in creating, measuring, and evaluating prototypes, identifying and solving design problems during new product development.
  • Design parts for metal stamping, machining, casting, extrusion, powder metal and plastic molding using a selection of standard materials. Optimize part and assembly designs for performance, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Create and revise engineering drawings of parts and assemblies to support manufacturing tooling, fixtures, equipment, and the inspection of components. Create functional dimension and tolerance schemes with consideration of manufacturing process capability and perform worst-case tolerance stacks on circuit breaker assemblies to optimize designs. Participate in print reviews.
  • Control engineering documents and models using engineering change orders within a product data management system with CAD data vault. Maintain large assembly models/drawings, be able to effectively manipulate them to support design activities. Create bills of materials.
  • Support tooling and industrialization by evaluating production part samples, reviewing first article inspection, and analyzing deviations.
  • Provide CAD-based illustrations for presentations, manufacturing instructions, and product literature.
  • Maintain current knowledge of CAD, design/manufacturing technologies applicable to the product line and cross-train to share knowledge across the team.
  • Apply industry and team standards/best practices to modeling, drawing and data management to support collaboration.
  • Provide status updates participate in project team meetings and communications as member of the global design team, accountable for project objectives.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Drafting from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in development/design
  • Minimum of 2 year of experience working with PTC Creo
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Moon Township will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 5 years of experience with PTC Creo
  • Experience with CETOL 6σ tolerance analysis and Ansys stress analysis software
  • Experience working with Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience with Six-Sigma quality tools

Position Criteria:

  • 3D CAD modeling knowledge/experience, as well as engineering drawing skills and a working knowledge of tolerance stack analysis.
  • Creative, mechanical problem solver
  • Must understand requirements of component design for manufacture – molding, stamping, casting, machining, brazing/welding, and assembly.
  • Knowledge of kinematic simulation, metrology, laboratory, and shop skills
