About the role
As an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer you’ll be responsible for the instruments, controls, and data of a novel electrochemical system that enhances the ocean’s natural ability to safely store carbon dioxide from the air, while reducing ocean acidity. The ideal candidate will bring superb technical, research and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get work done quickly.
What You’ll Do
- Establish control schemes, telemetry, SCADA, and databases
- Source, assemble, install, calibrate, and maintain instruments to collect data remotely and implement controls systems
- Apply industry experience to ensure economic and efficient component selection
- Work with and manage vendors providing technology solutions, instruments, cloud storage, and data management
- Work with the data engineering team to model control scenarios
- Design and create appropriate user/machine interface for system control and data collection and visualization
- Implement decisions regarding the need for customization
What You'll Need
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Software Engineering, Process Engineer, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
- 3-5 years industry experience with telemetric systems, SCADA, PLC, data acquisition systems, cloud data management, and database management
- Field experience with sensor installation and calibration, motorized controller installation, VFD systems, and electrician trades including the ability to solder and prepare components for assembly
- Entrepreneurial and creative thinking, with a balance of quantitative understanding of first principles and creativity
- Ability to manage external vendors, fabricators, and cloud and database management solutions
- Effective communication and presentation skills
- A sense of humor
Bonus
- Master’s degree or higher in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
- Embedded system design experience
- Familiarity with UL, NFPA, OSHA standards relating to electrical safety
- Experience with medium-high power electronics
- Control of electrochemical processes and fluid systems
- Electrical schematic design, and electrical layout experience
- Experience with physics based modeling software, e.g. Simulink
- Coding experience, e.g. python, C, java
- Experience integrating GIS databases
- Startup experience ideal, startup mentality a must; the ideal candidate is scrappy and gets things done
