Job Overview:

The inner workings of a multi-million dollar retail department store are both complex and dynamic. As a key player on a store leadership team, you’ll learn the challenges and collaborate on the solutions to driving the ideal shopping experience for today’s customers. Plus, you’ll get a firsthand introduction to the strategies and partnerships that will make you highly successful in this exciting, fast-paced program.

Available in major markets nationwide, the 8-week Store Management Internship will give you exposure to all facets of leading a store including team development, customer service, merchandising, business analysis, visual presentation, store operations, human resources, and asset protection.  You will make a direct impact on the business as you learn through real-world experiences. With mentorship and Store Manager support, you will receive leadership and professional development that will prepare you for a bright future in management.  Successful completion of the internship may lead to an opportunity to join Macy’s full-time Executive Development Program upon graduation.  The program begins in June.

Essential Functions:

  • Work through weekly assignments that directly impact the business and foster your development as a retail leader.
  • Complete a business-driving project & presentation demonstrating your learning throughout the program and consulting store leadership on your new ideas to grow the business.
  • Experience all facets of running a multi-million dollar department store through cross-functional departmental and operational exposures.  
  • Work with mentor to create a customer-focused selling environment by assisting with coaching and developing a team of associates.  
  • Assist with driving sales & profit through a range of different activities including managing the daily operation of our stores, training & coaching associates, and analyzing trends alongside business partners who make product merchandising decisions that better meet our customers’ needs.
  • Interact with store manager and regional teams to obtain a greater insight into the multitude of career opportunities available in our organization.
  • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality. 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience: 

  • To be eligible for our internship, you should be in your junior year, on your way to earning a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.  A cumulative 3.0 GPA minimum is preferred.  All majors will be considered for this opportunity. 

Communication Skills: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as reports and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills: 

  • Strong business acumen and ability to analyze data to make decisions.

Leadership Skills:

  • Leadership experience and ability to solve problems and drive results through others.

Physical Demands:

  • This position involves regular walking, standing, hearing, and talking. May involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching. May involve close vision, color, vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Involves use of hands and fingers for typing on keyboard and using a mouse. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

Work Hours: 

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and store/company needs.
  • With a flexible schedule that includes your input, you are able to maximize both work/life balance and the ability to run your business effectively. 
  • Schedules will include working nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to support the business.

Location and Start Date:

The Macy’s Store Management Internship is offered in stores located in major markets nationwide.  The program starts in June.
