Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Melter’s are responsible for the proper melting of various alloys and their delivery to designated molds or pouring lines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review the metal schedule to determine what type and quantity of alloy is needed.
- Scrape the inside of the furnace to remove residue as needed.
- Obtain bars of ingot and/or internal cuttings and place into the melting furnace.
- Degas the melted alloy as specified in melt instructions of product.
- Use skimmer to remove surface impurities.
- Monitor gauges and record temperatures as required.
- Take specimen disk and gas plug to the met lab for testing to ensure metal quality.
- GREEN SAND - Summon Pourers and oversee their delivery of metal to the pouring lines.
- NO-BAKE - Bail metal from melting furnace to pouring furnace. Coordinate maneuvers of the pouring furnace with the Lift Truck Operator and operate the control wheel to pour molds.
- Study work instructions to determine product specifications, tool requirements, and operational sequences.
- Complete daily inspections on tools and equipment, filling out forms when required to do so.
- Maintain housekeeping in the work area at the end of each shift.
- Maintain area per established 6S standards.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisory or leadman personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
At least one year of experience in a manufacturing setting is preferred.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Highschool diploma or its equivalent is preferred.
