Lab Analyst
With a continuous operating history dating from 1885, Eco Services (“Eco” or the “Company”) is the largest, most reliable and best-established producer of regenerated and virgin sulfuric acid in the United States, holding a #1 market share position overall. Eco Services operates a network of plants and logistics assets and serves a variety of markets including the oil refining, nylon, mining, general industrial and chemical industries. For the LTM period ending March 31, 2015, Eco Services generated Sales of $391 million and Adjusted EBITDA of $103 million.
Eco Services operates through three product segments:
Sulfuric acid regeneration: recycling of spent sulfuric acid into fresh sulfuric acid for continuous supply to the oil refining industry
Virgin sulfuric acid: manufacturing of high quality virgin acid products from sulfur and other raw materials for supply to a wide range of industrial end-users in the merchant US market
Other products: complementary operations including waste treatment services, supply of aluminum sulfate and provision of technical engineering expertise to customers (Industrial Field Services)
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for routine and non-routine laboratory analysis for plant process control and quality control. Prepare chemical stock solutions, standards, and reagents. Generate accurate lab data and reports and good housekeeping responsibilities. Conduct preventative maintenance and calibration on laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Assist laboratory manager in writing methods.
Additional responsibilities for the Laboratory Technician will include the following:
Performs duties associated with quality assurance, special projects, method development, and non-routine analytical and administrative assignments.
Provides analytical support for plant personnel on a day to day basis.
Conducts analysis, synthesis, and experimentation on substances for purposes as product and process application, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and improvement of analytical methodologies.
Responsible for analysis of finished products, in-process samples, raw materials and wastewater in compliance with SOP’s and HS&E policies and procedures.
Performs daily calibrations and QA/QC to insure accuracy of testing.
Review and analyze results for correctness.
Register sample results into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and issue reports as needed.
Perform plant equipment performance testing in the field
Responsible for troubleshooting and maintenance of all laboratory instruments and equipment.
Provide support to the Eco Services for process improvement, process safety and analytical initiatives
Complete daily inspections of both safety and analytical equipment in the Laboratory and Production Units.
Manage Laboratory waste in accordance with plant policies and procedures.
Revise standard operating procedures as needed.
Conduct non routine chemical and physical laboratory tests of solid materials, liquids and gases.
Generate and issue Certificates of Analysis (COA’s) to customers.
Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) specific to plant location or per job task requirements.
Conduct tests both inside Laboratory and outside on plant process equipment.
Knowledge of ion chromatography, wet chemistry techniques, ICP and wastewater analyses.
Ability related to lifting and carrying testing equipment to test locations within Production Unit.
Ability to communicate with all levels of plant personnel.
Ability to multi-task and manage work and assignments in a matrix-type environment
Must have strong interpersonal skills to facilitate interactions with co-workers and plant personnel in a team-based environment.
Good written and oral presentation skills and leadership qualities
Follow LOTO and life critical procedures and ensure safe performance of maintenance activities.
Write work orders and purchase laboratory operating supplies as needed.
Enter incident accident reports and safety concerns whenever issues arise.
Handles waste disposal by transporting hazardous waste container to designated area. Container is weighed, logged on a data sheet and labeled with data and weight prior to transporting.
Recommends changes in procedures to increase safety within the department.
Participates in bi-weekly safety meeting
Education and/or Minimum Qualifications:
1 years in chemical process industry with a background emphasis in Laboratory environment and analytical procedures.
Bachelor of Science in science or technical related field
An equivalent combination of education and experience
Transportation Worker’s Identification Credentials (TWIC)
