ECS is seeking a Junior Cloud Engineer to work in our Fairfax, VA corporate office in a hybrid remote / onsite capacity up to 3 business days per week.
Job Description:
ECS has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Cloud Engineer to join a team supporting a large Department of Defense (DoD) Program. The Junior Cloud Engineer will aid in designing, implementing, and maintaining DoD Mission Partner Enclaves' virtual infrastructure in an Azure Cloud environment.
The ideal candidate:
- Possesses two or more years of information technology (IT) experience
- Is willing and able to learn Azure Cloud technology
- Is a self-starter and has exceptional problem-solving skills
- Is eager to learn and develop their professional skills and qualifications
Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Work on a team as a Cloud Engineer in an Azure GovCloud environment servicing a DoD customer.
- Assist in developing innovative solutions to network, hardware, and software problems.
- Collaborate with other Cloud Engineers to support infrastructure support requests.
- Administrate and manage cloud infrastructure.
- Assist peers by providing technical support and troubleshooting expertise for complex problems.
- Aid in troubleshooting end users’ account issues.
- Assist with operating system updates, upgrades, and patches.
- Maintain the enterprise Active Directory.
- Document any developed processes and procedures.
- Perform other tasks, as assigned.

Required Skills:
- U.S. citizen required per contract.
- Ability to achieve a DoD Top Secret security clearance.
- Ability to work in a hybrid, on-site/remote capacity in Fairfax, VA (~3 days in office).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Networking, Computer Security, or other Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) discipline.
- 2 years of technical work experience.
- DoD 8570 compliant, minimum IAT Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Security or higher); current, or achieved within 60 calendar days of employment.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (Shell, Powershell, JavaScript, Python).
- Experience with either Linux or Windows command line interface.
- Familiarity with JSON or YAML object writing.
- Understanding of orchestration tools (chef, puppet, ansible, or AWS SSM or codepipeline preferred).
- Familiarity with common protocols including but not limited to: DNS, SMTP, HTTP(S), SFTP, SCP.
- Understanding of information technology infrastructure (components required for the operation and management of enterprise IT environments and services).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Politically savvy to confront difficult problems in a positive and creative way.
- Demonstrated ability to expertly balance multiple, competing priorities in an agile, fast-paced environment, and appropriately execute on dynamic deadlines.
- Willingness to execute other related duties, as needed, to support the Program / Program team.
Desired Skills:
- Preference shown to candidates with:
- Active Secret or higher security clearance.
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Networking, Computer Security, or related STEM discipline.
- Azure Cloud certification(s).
- Understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure, Private Clouds etc.)
- Experience with STIGing Windows and Linux endpoints and using the STIG Viewer for reporting.
- Experience working with DoD networks, or similar organizations and/or performers.
- Experience working with Atlassian's Jira and Confluence.
