HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST- FULL TIME- Staten Island
Position summary :
- The HR Generalist will support Eden II’s vision and strategic direction to cultivate a healthy, productive, and skilled workforce, with the goal of providing the highest quality of services to the people with autism our agency serves.
- The HR Generalist is charged with acting as a change agent to continually develop the agency’s capacity and culture, and support the agency’s vision and strategic plan. In this varied role, the HR generalist is responsible for ensuring human capital requirements of each department are met, and program leadership is supported in developing a reliable, sustainable, and competent workforce. This position will provide direct service to assigned departments and staff (especially in the areas of recruitment, benefits management, and performance management) as well as skilled guidance across areas including employment law, leadership development, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
Required skills and qualifications :
- Bachelors degree in related field and 3 years HR experience
- PHR or SPHR, or substantially equivalent professional certification strongly desired.
- Skilled and efficient use of HRIS (Ceridian/dayforce preferred) including an established history of accurate and consistent data entry, helpful production and use of reports, and the ability and initiative to solve problems independently (recruiting subject matter expert support as necessary).
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to represent the agency professionally and positively in a variety of venues (hearings, audits, investigations, job fairs, internal and external meetings and work groups) and to work effectively with all levels of employees and management throughout the organization
- Ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks, and meet strict deadlines and productivity demands while maintaining a positive, controlled, professional presentation.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Power Point, Word, and Outlook)
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills; ability to analyze data effectively and present in an accurate, concise, and persuasive manner
- Conscientious, detail oriented, and independent performance of routine job functions, with a professional demeanor and skills to effectively guide and support agency staff and managers.
- Human Resource experience should include technical knowledge and skills in all aspects of recruitment, employee development, and employee relations, plus strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws as well as legislation from other areas that impact agency practices and requirements with regard to staffing, compensation, labor deployment, and benefits.
- Strong investigative and report writing skills, and experience sharing sensitive findings in legally sound, sensitive, and productive way.
- Strong understanding of issues surrounding employee privacy and agency confidentiality, and demonstrated skills in carrying out responsibilities in this area.
Job Responsibilities:
General HR Support
- Provide support to employees and managers in the handling of all human resource related activities which may include: workforce planning, employee relations, fielding employee questions or concerns, complaint investigation and response, and the interpretation of policies and procedures.
- Support and serve as a liaison between employees and management
- Provide counsel to employees and management to maintain a productive and positive work environment, including employee development, coaching, recognition, dispute resolution, etc.
- Advise managers on salary offers and equity increases in accordance with the agency salary structure and promoting perceptions of a fair and reliable agency approach to compensation management.
- Partner with HR generalist colleagues, managers, and other parties to effectively plan and manage employee leaves of absence, short-term disability, FMLA requests, workers compensation issues, OSHA requirements, employee transfers, PTO issues, unemployment claims, and other employee matters.
- Conduct both basic and comprehensive workplace investigations, ensuring timely, responsible resolutions, consulting with HR/executive management and legal counsel as needed.
- Assist in the identification of issues and obstacles interfering with a healthy, ethical, and/or productive work environment for all employees. Work with HR and program leadership to implement programs and solutions to create a workplace where strong employee performance is developed, recognized, and rewarded.
- Input, review, edit, and maintain clean data within the HRIS for assigned program areas (and assist in routine clean-up efforts with the full HR department as needed).
- Provide strong support to other members of the HR team (and agency as a whole) as needed (e.g., personal areas of expertise, routine coverage arrangements, and special tasks/projects).
- Maintain and contribute to a positive, supportive, and collegial working environment within the HR department, the larger central administrative group, your assigned service departments, and the agency as a whole.
Benefits Management
- Participate in the coordination and accurate administration of employee benefits, both within and beyond assigned service group. Associated administrative job tasks may include but are not limited to billing reconciliations, requisitions, employee enrollment/removal, various documentation filings and communications with employees regarding various benefits (e.g., medical, vision, dental, short term disability, long term disability, workers comp., supplemental disability, FSAs, and life insurance).
Recruitment
- Carry out all required tasks relating to employee recruitment and new hire/ transfer processing, including but not limited to: coordination and posting of openings, development of job descriptions, diversity recruitment strategies, interviewing /screening candidates, reference checks, background checks, pre-hire documentation requirements, job offer recommendations and offer letters, and generally, acting as responsive and competent HR liaison with the hiring manager to facilitate fast, professional, and policy-compliant on-boarding of staff as needed to meet agency/department objectives.
- Compliance
- Ensure compliance with agency policies and all state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to Human Resources matters.
- Partner with internal Corporate Compliance / Quality Assurance team to participate in internal audits or those conducted by state or federal agencies.
- Monitor and provide feedback regarding the use of policies and procedures and propose / draft policies / updates as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the HR manager, executive staff, or as required to meet agency HR-related goals and objectives.
