Responsibilities
The Data Science Engineer - SQL will be a part of our IT team and will work in support of SQL Reporting, Pricing, Analytics, Operational and Infrastructure initiatives. Will be responsible for developing an understanding of data and information needs, identifying solutions and improving the quality of service while providing support through the logical and physical design of databases, data-structures, routes, and topic and be responsible for designing, managing, and maintaining digital communication document and messaging format standards. Act as a Database Administrator, maintaining data integrity, availability and performance across data-stores, data services, and RDBMSs.
Will also provide strategic guidance and implementation of the corporate Data "Surface and the corresponding integrations, translations, and observability.
Designing, managing, and maintaining company digital communications formats and standards in documentation.
Managing and maintaining database system software and database security.
Monitoring and analyzing database performance and ensuring effective and efficient utilization of database systems/processes.
Maintaining database dictionaries and support tools; developing and maintaining accurate system documentation.
Participating in the development of application code: assisting in developing application data-management architecture and defining data-structures.
Providing technical leadership on database systems and solutions. Providing individual mentoring and training on databases and tools. Recommending, testing, and evaluating new technologies, software tools, and required skill sets; recommending and implementing improvements.
Implementing a Business Continuity solution for the database environment.
Comply with company C-TPAT and TSA security procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Five or more years of complex SQL, and NoSQL query creation, tuning and troubleshooting.
Database administration experience: installing, configuring, designing, patching, archiving, monitoring, indexing and performance tuning.
Backup/recovery solutions and best practices.
Common BI Tools (Tableau, PowerBI).
NoSQL solutions and concepts.
Working knowledge of data encryption techniques in process and on disk.
Capable of managing multiple projects concurrently while maintaining a high level of attention to detail on each project.
Ability to write effective technical documentation.
Ability to communicate with the customer's technical staff.
Ability to communicate with business stakeholders in order to understand business needs.
Experience with modern operations technologies and network troubleshooting.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, or past commercial implementation experience in the field.
Experience with the following is not required but considered valuable:
BigData / FastData / DataLake / Data Virtualization solutions and concepts.
Machine Learning.
Strong communication skills, good organizational skills, and ability to problem solve.
Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, team environment.
Must be able to and comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct.
