What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Intern position at EDPR NA?
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The GIS Intern will report to the GIS Manager and is responsible for GIS data management and organizational priorities set forth by EDPR North America GIS Team.
The EDPR North America GIS Team (NA GIS Team) primarily supports the EDP Renewables (EDPR) business in North America by creating automated and standardized processes to generate project web maps, exhibits, documentation, and deliverables for all phases of EDPR projects.
The GIS Intern will provide data support for EDPR wind, solar, storage, and hydrogen operational projects. The GIS Intern will communicate and work closely with other GIS Team members to collect, compile, analyze, standardize, and apply metadata to all authoritative operational datasets for EDPR. The GIS Intern will also produce high-quality key exhibits, layouts, templates, or web maps, and apply standard symbology in conjunction with Cartographic Governance practices and guidelines set forth by EDPR NA GIS for all EDPR Projects.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Data collection, compilation, metadata, and data governance. Must have excellent attention to detail.
- ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap software familiarity.
- Ability to quickly learn new software. Knowledge of database systems is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of Cartographic design and principle; apply knowledge to exhibit layouts, templates, and web-based maps.
- Exhibit proficiency in coordinate reference systems and transformations; Convert geographic data formats and standard data conversion and transformation methods, for geographic analysis.
- Exhibit enthusiasm and proficiency in process improvement and problem-solving.
PRIMARY GOALS
GIS Intern will work closely with NA GIS Team to ready GIS datasets and maps into centralized ArcGIS Enterprise environment for the following initiatives:
- ArcGIS Enterprise Dashboards and Web Maps: An initiative to standardize and maintain operational data in project web maps (accessible by all EDPR personnel).
- GIS Data Governance: Work closely with EDPR NA GIS team to locate, transform, organize, and prepare metadata for operational GIS Data to ready it for distribution to Enterprise system; Will consist of extensive documentation and user training and planned communication for knowledge transfer to general EDPR Population.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Software (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro).
- Will receive Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from four-year college in science or math - related degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience in next 12 months.
- Basic understanding of how to produce, export, integrate ArcGIS data from various data types.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise. (Preferred).
- Experience in process automation utilizing Python. Model Builder, and other Geoprocessing techniques.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal for ArcGIS, Web Applications, Widgets and Tools
- Knowledge of ESRI Production Mapping suite of tools, including Data Review, Workflow Manager, Task Assistant Manager.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office 365, Visio, and Teams.
- Experience in Data Management with customer service-oriented delivery.
