HIGHER EDUCATION ADVISOR

Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Higher Education Advisor is to prepare urban youth, academically and socially, to pursue their post-secondary aspirations. This primarily involves supporting a college‐going culture on the assigned high school campus. Higher Education Advisors assist students in all college preparatory activities (applications for admission, scholarships, SAT/ACT testing, etc.) to ensure students are prepared to enter and graduate from college. Higher Education Advisors connect high school students with the financial and social resources necessary to make college matriculation and graduation a reality. The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth in a counseling, high school, or college setting. Experience in college admissions or school counseling is preferred. Candidates must have great analytical, writing, and project management skills. Finally, the ideal candidate must have the ability to influence and motivate young people on the value and benefits of college.

Reports To:

EIF Program Director or Assistant Director

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in education, social science or related field preferred
  • 2 years prior experience in education or a field related to counseling or youth programming

  • Organization: Develops and adheres to timelines; ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects;
  • Work ethic: Sets high standards and takes responsibility for a project from start to finish;
  • Computer skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office required; knowledge of additional software a plus

Essential Functions:

  • Informing students about EIF Dallas, associated policies, guidelines, and expectations;
  • Promoting a college‐going culture on respective campuses and recruiting new students to the program;
  • Building and maintaining relationships with high school students;
  • Case management of files, including student closeouts upon graduation;
  • Assisting with the college application, admission, and enrollment processes;
  • Registration of students for college entrance and placement examinations (including ACT, SAT, TSI);
  • Assisting students with financial aid, grant, and scholarship applications;
  • Planning and conducting life skills classes and college retention seminars to ensure social competence among students;
  • Assisting students with scholarship applications and other opportunities to broaden their horizons and embrace new opportunities (internships, camps);
  • Facilitate college transitions for students through programming, mentor matching, one‐on‐one contact;
  • Monitor student progress and refer students for additional services as needed;
  • Contribute to the identification of funding opportunities for students;
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as needed at the discretion of the EIF Dallas
  • Program Director.

Pay: From $36,000.00 per year
