What You Will Be Doing  

As a Senior Consultant – Equity and Systems Improvement for Multilingual Learners you will play a key role in developing, coordinating, and delivering direct technical assistance to state and local education agencies to improve outcomes for language learner students. Successful performance of this job requires the ability to collaborate effectively with educators in a variety of capacities (i.e., professional learning, instructional coaching, consultation), across organizations and with other Education Northwest staff members. As a Senior Consultant, this individual will contribute to Education Northwest’s growing body of work supporting state education agencies and school districts.

Responsibilities 
Supervisory Responsibility: None 
Reports to the Director, Equitable Learning & Systems Improvement  

  • Employ an equity lens to support clients as they ensure equitable access to high quality instructional programming 
  • Coordinate with peers to lead and conduct all aspects of technical assistance projects, including project planning, coordination, and implementation 
  • Generate and maintain strong relationships with clients  
  • Assist with building and evaluating evidence-based multilingual programs (including bilingual or dual language immersion programs, integrated language and content instruction, collaborative coteaching models, etc.) 
  • Identify and assess client needs and coordinate technical assistance services that meet ethical and legal obligations for educating English learner students 
  • Communicate and deliver evidence-based practices to clients through presentations, targeted technical assistance, and in-person and web-based communication 
  • Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with diverse, multi-functional teams internally and externally to ensure the delivery of exceptional, high-quality consulting services throughout the nation  
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, including adjusting communication styles to address the diverse perspectives of participants and work with them to resolve differences 
  • Lead and participate in business development efforts to strategize areas of growth related to multilingual learners 
  • Design, develop, and implement new products and services based on best practice, research and evidence 
  • Lead and participate in teams focused on the development of winning proposals, including scoping and budgeting potential projects 

 

 What You Should Have  

  • Experience in and enthusiasm for working in culturally and linguistically diverse environments with a commitment to equity 
  • Strong ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, technical topics such as pedagogy, methodology, and teaching practice to non-technical audiences 
  • Demonstrated ability to build and leverage working relationships with education agencies to conceptualize and execute both evaluation and technical assistance projects 
  • Demonstrated experience in data-driven decision making to implement effective actions in support of multilingual learners  
  • Proven ability to effectively facilitate in culturally and linguistically diverse environments  
  • Proven ability to foster collaboration within multilevel internal teams  
  • Knowledge and experience in designing, developing, and coordinating language and literacy programs for English learner students at the state, district, or school level 
  • Willingness to collaborate and learn in real time among lifelong learners 
  • Experience in crucial conversations, with the ability to offer and receive constructive feedback and grow into new roles and responsibilities as the work arises 
  • Advanced coursework or endorsement in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and/or bilingual education  
  • Master’s degree in education or a related field  
  • At least five years of successful K–12 teaching experience, with experience coaching teachers preferred 
  • Experience as a building or district administrator preferred 
  • Bilingual/biliterate preferred

  • Portland, Oregon based office, remote working location
