As an Employment Specialist you will provide case management and career counseling to both adult and youth customers. You will provide support and assistance in all areas related to gaining and/or retaining employment and career advancement. The Employment Specialist will act as a liaison between local employers and program participants. You will identify job-related responsibilities and tasks though job analysis. You will build business relationships with local area employers aligned with the SCWIB industry sectors. The Employment Specialist will market and develop On-the-Job Trainings (OJT), Customized Training (IWT) and Work Experience opportunities.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide individualized assessment of work, family and personal development needs and opportunities to adults and youth
  • Provide comprehensive case management and follow-up to ensure positive outcomes and goals are met as required by contract
  • Determine WIOA eligibility and accurately complete required documentation for enrollment
  • Build professional one-on-one working relationships with customers to assist in eliminating challenges that are hindrances to obtaining and retaining employment
  • Provide individualized basic skills assessment and identify employment goals based on career interest, ability, and personal development considerations
  • Provide referrals to appropriate community service or social service agencies as needed
  • Encourage customers to participate in and follow through with planned activities as outlined in contract with funding agency
  • Develop Individual Services Strategy in conjunction with youth
  • Assist youth in accomplishing the goals of the Individual Service Strategy
  • Build one-on-one working relationships with adults and youth to assist in mitigating challenges to obtaining and retaining employment
  • Facilitate educational activities in individual and group settings to remediate basic skills and increase functional educational levels
  • Coordinate onsite and offsite career awareness field trips with employers and educational facilities
  • Oversee customer activities and assist with workshop schedules
  • Create solutions to customer attendance problems
  • Maintain customer files as specified by contractor
  • Provide consistent and comprehensive case management follow-up and retention services, ensuring that post-placement contacts are made as required by specific contract and accommodating customer work schedules
  • Document all participant contacts and activities in case progress notes
  • Work with the team on implementing processes that increase customer engagement
  • Contact employers by phone, referral or in person to schedule face-to-face meetings
  • Introduce employers to Missouri Job Center services and available training programs during initial employer visit
  • Develop a network for potential business leads and reconnect employers who no longer utilize services
  • Develop and distribute electronic/paper outreach materials in collaboration with Missouri Job Center partners, according to SCWIB policies
  • Generate new and recurring job openings, including those generated by serving the incumbent workforce
  • Train employers to use MoJobs and explain how to input job orders
  • Enter all employer information and employer contacts into appropriate systems and monitor employer activities
  • Review participant employment skills and match with active positions in MoJobs
  • Represent EDSI at conferences, meetings and targeted social functions as required
  • Post and maintain job orders in the system, enter employer services and open new business folders
  • Establish detailed documentation of all client records to maintain organized database and generate all project reports as needed
  • Share information with appropriate staff and/or funding agencies
  • Provide regular updates to the Program Manager
  • Meet performance criteria on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports as needed
  • Ensure that positive outcomes and goals are met as required by contract
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Career counseling experience
  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities preferred
  • 1-3 years of sales or business experience preferred
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and document visits and contacts
  • Demonstrated telephone, computer, and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain flexibility as needs of contract or contractor require
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Human Resources, or a related area preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Valid Driver’s License and an automobile are required
