The Education Department of Saint Michael’s College is seeking an active scholar and skilled instructor for an Assistant Professor of Special Education beginning August 2023. This is a tenure-track position. This faculty member will be an integral part of a collaborative Education Department that has an excellent reputation for guiding undergraduate and graduate students to become teachers and educational leaders. In addition, this faculty member will join a college community dedicated to academic excellence, service, diversity, equity, and inclusion.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education  
  • Coordinate the special education concentration in the graduate program 
  • Supervise student teaching internships and special education practica at the M.Ed, level 
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students through their educational program 
  • Participate in College and Education Department meetings and committees 
  • Develop and nurture partnerships with local schools, educational organizations, and the Vermont Agency of Education 
  • Create a vibrant scholarship agenda

Required  Qualifications: 

  • Earned a master's by August 2023 with expertise in special education with a concentration in teaching students with emotional behavioral challenges and autism  
  • Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in public schools 
  • Sought-after areas of expertise include educating students with emotional/behavioral challenges and students with autism; equity, intersectionality, and inclusion 
  • Experience in working with diverse student populations, including multilingual learners 
  • Demonstration of involvement in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion 
  • Experience teaching special education courses at the university or college level 
  • Evidence of creating partnerships with schools and educational organizations 
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills 
  • Familiarity with assessments and software applications in special education
