TypicalDay in the Life
A typical day as an IT Project Manager might include the following:
- Manage projects sponsored by the ITS department and from one or two of the Firm's business lines.
- Act as a liaison between the technical staff and the business line(s), immersing self in the business line's processes. Performs all project management activities including documentation, preparation, contingency planning, status reporting and results measurement.
- Research, analyze and recommend new technologies and software applications to meet the stakeholder's needs.
- Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements, delivering the following artifacts as needed: business requirements, use cases, GUI, and screen and interface designs.
- Perform business process analysis.
- Drive and challenge business units on their assumptions of how they will successfully execute their plans.
- Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs.
- Coordinate activities between the project sponsors and technical staff.
- Assist with project scope formation by documenting project requirements and system deliverables.
- Assist the business units in developing standard processes.
- Prepare budget entries for project expenditures.
- Prepare the project plan and manages resource assignments.
- Prepare risk assessments and contingency plans.
- Prepare cost/benefit or ROI analysis.
- Produce and distribute project status reports.
- Manage project or scope change requests.
Who You Are
- You have a Bachelor's DegreeinInformation Systems or a related field.
- You have 5 years of experience in IT project management required.
- You have previous business analyst or business process management experience preferred.
- You have a Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Project Manager (CPM) or other project management certification preferred
- You have the ability to actively listen and interpret business objectives to derive technical requirements.
- You have the ability to identify and resolve conflicts between project objectives, technical capabilities and resource limitations.
- You have a well-rounded knowledge of computer hardware and operating systems, database fundamentals and computer software.
- You have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- You have the ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
- You have the ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities with work projects.
- You have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and clients.
- You are proficient with computers, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and using various software packages
