What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Specialist position at EIHAB Human Services Inc.?
The behavioral specialist is responsible for providing behavioral services to individuals. Behavior Specialist develop the Behavior Support Plans for individuals with significant behavioral health needs in high-intensity residential settings. This role ensures that residential staff are knowledgeable about and are effective in implementing these behavior plans in order to provide an exceptional standard of care and support based on each person's specialized needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete structured assessment interviews with parents/clients/direct care professionals
- Implement appropriate data measurement systems for challenging behaviors under assessment and challenging behaviors under an active behavior plan.
- Implement fidelity checks for behavior data tracking
- Monitor assigned cases and initiate termination/transition process when appropriate
- Assures that documentation and records are kept confidential, organized, and complete access and analyze function of client’s behavior
- Research, propose, develop and implement Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) approved strategies to address socially significant challenging behaviors
- Collaborate with staff members and Interdisciplinary Committee Team (IDT) members to plan strategies to replace disruptive, negative behaviors by teaching clients positive, productive, and socially appropriate replacement behaviors
- Provide on-going support for staff members through staff trainings.
- Implement positive behavior reinforcement systems including positive reinforcement charts, daily schedules, necessary visual supports, routines and interventions to help clients to learn successfully using appropriate behavior.
- Complete behavior supports billing and supporting clinical note at the end of each direct clinical client contact, and upon conduction of approved billable client related duties.
- Participate in potential residential referred client’s assessment/meet and greet meetings/processes.
- Offer scheduled presentations to EIHAB new hires on Positive Behavior Supports strategies and other selected mental health topics.
- Actively participate in client specific IDT and Individualized Service Plan (ISP) meetings.
- Complete and submit weekly report of completed duties to the assigned supervisor at the end of each week.
- Report directly to the Assistance Director of Behavioral and Mental Health Services
Qualifications of Behavior Specialist
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (i.e. psychology, social work, special education, etc.) is required with a minimum of 3 years of experience working with individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities.
- Or, hold an advanced degree (Masters or higher) in a relevant field such as psychology, social work, special education, etc., with at least 1 to 2 years of experience in the field.
- Or, BCBA certification, or completed coursework towards BCBA certification.
- Strong communication skills, both interpersonal and written.
- Valid NJ Driver’s license.
