The Corix team has an opportunity for a Thermal Energy Systems Engineer in Langley, BC-Hybrid. This position will be responsible for leading the technical assessment of new thermal energy systems in close cooperation with Corix’s technical team and external consultants, developing technical concepts, energy modelling and providing technical analysis and financial assessments for new district and discrete thermal energy developments. The position provides subject matter engineering expertise to Business Development, Project Management Office and Operations teams for cradle to grave engineering from initial analysis/ development, through construction, commissioning and then into service with ongoing optimization and performance monitoring.

What you'll do

  • Lead technical prefeasibility/feasibility assessments and develops technical concepts with focus on low-carbon energy applications in district and discrete energy setting.
  • Monitor and provide ongoing subject matter engineering advice in the development, construction, and commissioning phases of capital projects as well as optimizing performance and calculating operational efficiency of in-service plant equipment. The position works within Operations and serves as a technical support to Business Development and in advisory capacity to the Project Management Office to ensure company and client expectations are met.
  • Lead the process for technical proposals and serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in all engineering related activities to the leadership team. At the same time, provide feasible solutions that can be executed on.
  • Prepare technical engineering packages and responses to RFQ’s and RFP’s, including developing strategies of approach, preparing high level demand forecasts, conceptual designs, completing engineering reviews, drawing on existing content and drafting original, and preparing customized content based on specific customer requirements
  • Prepare, organize, and oversee peer reviews of engineering designs and compatibility reviews.
  • Oversee the updating of technical and compatibility engineering guidelines and specifications.
  • Prepare, scope, coordinate and supports engineering submissions of regulatory applications, working with project team to ensure all regulatory requirements and deadlines are met
  • Act as technical liaison with clients and consultants through the complete cycle from initial concept design, presentation, and approval to order delivery
  • Ensure that all required professional services agreements are in place for all work projects and that there is appropriate due diligence to compliance of the agreement terms
  • Perform other related duties as required

What you bring

Experience

  • Must have good knowledge, experience and understanding of applicable Provincial Boiler Pressure Vessel Regulations, Codes, Standards, and HSE requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Thermal Energy Production and distribution, (or combination of experience with district energy and HVAC systems), for engineering design, project planning and control, and building integration including labor and material cost estimating experience.
  •  Minimum of 3 years of experience in a thermal utility

Education and Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or related field is required
  • Member or eligible to be a member of a Professional Organization

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in engineering would be an asset
  • EGBC would be an asset

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to act as a resource to teams for advice and guidance on potential engineering approaches and problem situations.
  • Ability to develop and manage cross functional internal & external relationships typically within own area to solve problems and create efficiencies.
  • Ability to solve technical problems within established guidelines and procedures, requiring the use of judgment to determine which of many methods or technologies are applicable in any given situation.
  • Knowledge of low-carbon energy technologies and relevant applications, energy efficiency codes, project costing and value engineering process
