Job Title: Strategic Sustainability Executive Location: EPRI Washington DC Office Job Summary and Description: The Strategic Sustainability Executive represents EPRI in a visible and critical technical area. Oversees work in this area and represents EPRI both internally and externally. Recognized as a subject matter expert and is involved in the research work of other public and private organizations in this field. Maintains expertise by in-depth involvement in the state-of-the-art research and technology development in the field. Contributes to multiple projects within and cross sector on whatever basis necessary for effective utilization of expertise. Designs and oversees research studies to be performed by EPRI will advance the state-of-knowledge in the field. Interacts with EPRI leaders to develop EPRI’s position in the field; consults with leaders in member organizations to assist in their strategy development relating to field of expertise. Supports EPRI M&TS in representing EPRI and establishing EPRI’s technical credentials and leadership. May lead a small team of capable technical staff members and advises/mentors developing technical staff, does not have direct management responsibility. Coaches and mentors internal staff in associated technical areas of expertise. This position is open for a remote work setting Education: Advanced degree in science/engineering or equivalent experience required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Recognized as having expert knowledge in a broad field of expertise by the science, engineering or technical community both within and outside EPRI. Ability to communicate complex science and technical issues in a way that can influence both the technical community, membership and Sector Council Requires little day to day supervision. Receives direction and guidance to set high level priorities. Communicates project status, plans, and results during member visits, presentations to Sector Council. Ability to communicate science and technical studies and results in a manner that exhibits technical expertise but also is easily understood by energy stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Individual contributor The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas: 1.) Pipeline Development: Seeking new opportunities Engaging and listening to current members to understand their challenges and needs Looking beyond our current members 2.) Project Management: Leading efforts in full cycle project management consisting of: budget oversight, ensuring projects are staying within timeline and providing deliverables 3.) Project Execution: Deliver results Engage and interview with member CSO/CFO's to gain better understanding of their Sustainability programs Checking in on current workshops Assist with reviewing and writing reports 4.) Strategic Vision: Having an innovated mindset to help identify where EPRI's Sustainability Science program is and where we can/should go 5.) Sustainability: Experience with reporting, ranking, and standards frameworks Demonstrated leadership across all aspects of sustainability/ESG The following is also preferred of interested candidates: An experienced practitioner of sustainability and how electric power companies strategically address this topic; Experience working in or with electric power or energy companies; Experience in supporting research activities and/or relative work experience applicable to executing sustainability strategies and programming Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills (including strong Excel skills), creatively approaching problem solving grounded in expertise, experience, and EPRI research; Ability to form and maintain productive working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, building coalitions of cross-EPRI experts to support project execution; Ability to identify opportunities for project application and lead outreach efforts to companies to build project pipeline; Familiarity with sustainability reporting organizations with a knowledge of sustainability metrics Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with and present to EPRI membership at all levels (including executive leadership), as well as write clearly, succinctly, and in a manner that appeals to a wide audience; Capability to facilitate meetings and workshops with a variety of stakeholders to build understanding and collect constructive feedback; Ability to exercise judgment, diligence, and attention to detail and demonstrates an aptitude for carrying out technical assignments; Curiosity and attention-to-detail balanced by focus on task-oriented goal completion Experience working on multiple projects concurrently; A positive attitude, always committed to success and being a part of a collaborative team of business and technical professionals.
