What are the responsibilities and job description for the Metallurgist position at Element Materials Technology?
Overview
Element has an opportunity for a Metallurgist to join our expanding team. As a member of the operations team, they will provide technical and engineering leadership and support the development of new technologies within the laboratory. The Metallurgist is primarily responsible for client projects and accountable for the accurate and timely release of information as the authorized signatory for routine and non-routine assignments under minimal direct supervision to meet customer expectations. The metallurgist will also oversee related standard and/or routine technical problem-solving activities, assist in professional development in support of novice technicians and engineers, interact with customers on technical issues, provide input and support on business development opportunities with new and existing customers. The successful candidate should be fluent in a number of metallurgical topics with competency in related technical skills, core business concepts, established safety rules, codes of conduct, and company policies and procedures as part of an established QMS system (ISO 17025).
Responsibilities
- Reviews customer requirements and related specifications for appropriate test application.
- Actively shares knowledge with other related disciplines, specialists, and customers to develop relationships.
- Assists sales with technical questions and provides information for accurate quoting.
- Reviews test results for material property evaluations and specification qualifications, approving the final decision statement.
- Provides technical leadership for testing projects/developments which are designed to foster additional technical capabilities and services within the local laboratory.
- Communicates effectively with departmental supervisors to set priorities to enable timely completion of work necessary to meet customer expectations.
- Interacts with quality assurance personnel and administrative staff as necessary.
- Coordinate with the clients & third-party witness as to the testing details.
- Willing to assist in other activities from time to time that may be requested by department managers
Skills / Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgy or equivalent with an emphasis in a scientific or engineering discipline
- Minimum of 2 years’ post degree experience or higher academic/professional qualifications, working in a laboratory in the field of metallurgy testing or related field with in-depth understanding of testing concepts
- Working knowledge of basic laboratory safety with experience of safe operation of metallurgical testing equipment and operating in lab and / or industrial environment
- Strong computer skills Excellent technical report writing skills familiarity with Microsoft® Office products.
