Assistant Controller Position Overview:
The Assistant Controller will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will be responsible for overseeing comprehensive financial management. This includes expertise in partnership and corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, as well as the development of robust internal control policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the CFO to manage day-to-day accounting operations, including Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P), and Payroll.
- Directly supervise 2 staff accountants (bookkeeper and analyst).
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and issue accurate monthly financial statements in a timely manner.
- Assist in the development and assessment of budgets and budget reports.
- Support the implementation and enhancement of quality control systems for financial transactions and reporting.
- Oversee all aspects of the general ledger within the accounting department.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Utilize various software programs to manage and reconcile accounts effectively.
- Prepare and facilitate year-end reviewed statements.
- Stay informed about regulatory changes and compile reports on compliance issues, standards, and accounting practices.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience as an accountant, assistant controller, or in a similar role.
- Professional certification such as CPA, CFM, or CMA preferred.
- Expertise in financial statement preparation across various legal entities.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP and relevant financial accounting regulations.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Great Plains) is advantageous.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Highly organized with a keen attention to detail.
- Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Strong critical thinking skills and analytical abilities.
- Demonstrated experience in supervisory and management roles.
