What are the responsibilities and job description for the Juvenile Program Coordinator position at Elko County?
SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE
Assist the department in developing and maintaining a family engagement plan to enhance family engagement per NRS 62B.645 and other evidence-based programming implemented by the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Family Coach/Engagement- Practice strategies to strengthen parent-child relationships, improve parenting skills, teach effective problem-solving and reduce family stress
- Build trusting relationships with families and provide support in establishing positive home environments
- Provide referral services to improve family relationships and support individual emotional and/or psychological needs
- Provide services tailored to the family needs, strengths, weaknesses, lifestyle, and culture
- Provide evidence-based programs including parenting classes, anger management, life skills, etc.
- Facilitate groups for evidence-based programs including Forward Thinking, Alternatives, Girls Circle and Boys Council curriculum.
- Collaborate with probation staff in developing programming that assist juveniles in avoiding future delinquent behavior that cause arrest and detention stays
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepares written reports; maintains individual case files and chronological records.
- Work with probation officers to identify appropriate participants for programs. Then coordinate efforts with parents to obtain needed information (i.e. emergency contact information, parental release forms, etc.)
- Submit progress reports to probation officers and the Family Court on participant’s progress throughout program.
- Assigned job tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited school in the area of corrections, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or closely related behavioral science field OR
- Associates degree plus 2 years experience in a related field performing the above duties OR
- High school diplomas and 4 years of relevant work experience
- Must maintain a valid Nevada driver's license

- Community programs, resources, and services available for assistance to youth and families
- Functions and general practices of law enforcement agencies and of the courts
- Pertinent federal, state and local laws; national trends in juvenile justice.
Skills
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Screening and evaluating juveniles for behavioral problems, alcohol and drug withdrawal, security risk and psychological needs.
- Observing details accurately and recognizing suspicious behavior.
- Selecting, training, and evaluating subordinate employees.
- Supervising, directing, motivating employees, and planning their work assignments effectively.
- Creating a fair, unbiased, cooperative work atmosphere.
- Understanding, interpreting, and communicating complicated policies, procedures and protocols.
- Using the tools and equipment listed below.
- Work effectively with juveniles and their families; respond to and make decisions
- Communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
- Build client rapport and maintain confidentiality
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including various community agencies, schools and legal representatives.
- Ability to work with, supervise, and relate to/with juveniles who are referred to the department.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
- Pass a thorough law enforcement background investigation
- Must be willing to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and shift work if required.
- Employees in this classification are required to complete one year of probationary period.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) as well as verbal and written skills are desirable.

Salary : $52,520 - $63,024
