What are the responsibilities and job description for the Server Administrator II position at Ellis Medicine?
BASIC FUNCTION:
Works under general supervision in a team environment to gain a breadth of knowledge of the environment and the assigned systems. Works with application teams to facilitate medium to large scale projects and maximize system uptime and data integrity. Maintains physical and or virtual hardware and performs tasks that present medium risk to the environment. Works with end users to ensure their experience with systems meets their needs and the needs of the organization. Trains junior administrators and data center staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field
- Four years installation and support experience for the assigned operating system, communications, or server environment.
OR
- Eight years’ experience in operating system support or overall technical systems management,
- Four years in the assigned operating system, communications, or server environment may substitute for the degree.
Preferred
- Professional certification(s) from major operating system or hardware vendors. Examples include Microsoft, IBM, HP, Dell, Cisco, EMC, VMWare, ITIL, Project Management etc.
- Experience in healthcare IT
MAKING ELLIS EXCEPTIONAL (MEE) BEHAVIORS & STANDARDS
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
Manages the Installation, Monitoring, and Maintenance, of the Physical Hardware and Data Center Environments
- Installs, cables, and configures server/blade/storage hardware.
- Monitors environmental conditions of data center locations with by use of IP based cameras, temperature, humidity, air flow, and flood sensors.
- Routinely visits data center locations to review physical conditions.
- Monitors physical health of server and storage equipment by use of enterprise monitoring and alerting tools.
- Documents and replaces failed hardware in a timely fashion.
- Effectively communicates/coordinates problem resolution with users, ISS personnel, and vendors.
- Keeps data center areas clean and ensures proper storage of spare equipment.
- Maintains the physical security of data center locations.
Manages Server, Virtual, and Storage Operating Systems and Application Software
- Monitors OS and Application logs to ensure proper function, performance, and security of systems.
- Establishes and maintains OS and Application monitoring via enterprise monitoring systems.
- Maintains all Critical and Security patching of server OS monthly (more often if necessary).
- Maintains timely updates for all other appliances, applications, and other systems that fall directly under the control of the Enterprise Systems team.
- Ensures and maintains proper backups and disaster recovery processes are in place.
- Diagnoses and resolves problems pertaining to server, virtual, and storage operating systems, and application software.
- Leads and effectively communicates/coordinates problem resolution with users, ISS personnel, and vendors.
- Follows the organization’s change management process for all changes to production systems.
- Monitors and maintains security standards by allowing the least necessary permissions to systems and servers.
Documents the Organization’s Information Systems
- Creates documentation relating to implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting information systems.
- Trains junior administrators and data center staff
- Performs Root Cause Analysis and follow up documentation as necessary.
Researches and evaluates new and upgraded hardware and systems software technologies.
- Maintains standards of using enterprise class tools and hardware to ensure scalability, compatibility, and security of systems.
- Plans, installs, tests and provides support of new, upgraded, and modified hardware and systems software.
- Works with supervisor and vendors to ensure budget is maintained and capital maximized.

Salary : $84,900 - $108,000
