Paralegal to join our team in support of the Defense Health Agency Office of General Counsel Claims Collection Division at Ft. Belvoir.
This paralegal is responsible for the recoupment, debt inquiries, debt collection and research activities. The successful candidate for this position will have the education, experience, and provide consummate customer service in all phases of the Claim Collection process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews and analyzes cases pertaining to the recoupment of erroneous payments, fraud and third-party liability. Recommends dispositions of recoupment cases in accordance with applicable laws, regulations procedures and TRICARE policy and precedents. Responds to debt inquiries from debtors, the Department of the Treasury, and other interested parties. Research dissolved/out of business debtors and determines collection opportunities. Prepares reports on debt collection activities. Refer Third Party Liability cases to uniformed services claim offices and coordinate related issues. Assists Claims Collection branch attorneys and paralegals in asserting DHA’s interest in bankruptcy cases, including preparation of proofs of claim
Non-Essential Duties/Other duties as assigned responsibilities: Must be able to work in a team environment where leadership is already established, communicates well with staff and customers, history of successful customer service relations, and can learn government centered business methodologies quickly. Must be able abide and comply with government policies, regulations, and guidance. Must be able to work in concert with government oversight in Claims Collections. Travel is not required at this time.
Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily)
- Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree in related field
- Minimum of three (3) to (5) years demonstrated experience
- Proven extensive knowledge of all tasks and methodologies of non-government claims collection actions, ability to perform above average use of MS products, ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and database applications.
- Proven working experience paralegal in insurance, medical claims. The same type of experience in TRICARE claims is preferred yet not required.
- Must be able to obtain a Government Public Trust clearance
- Preferred Paralegal certification (National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) or National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA)
Other Requirements: Must be able to quickly transition from civilian work environment to government work environment. Must be able to successfully comply with government work scheduling: combination work schedule (in office and telework), full time telework and full time in the office. As a part of the applicant work references from the supervision level must be provided.
