JOB DESCRIPTION: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Job Summary
The Executive Director is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of Embrace Washington to ensure high-quality delivery of services, program growth, and achievement of goals and program objectives. Other key responsibilities include securing necessary funding streams or other financial resources for expansion and sustainability, oversight of the budget and personnel. The Executive Director will devise strategic plans in collaboration with key staff and Board of Directors leadership and will ensure all program policies, procedures and guidelines are adhered to and implemented consistently among Embrace Washington as appropriate.
Essential Duties and Functions
Board of Directors Governance:
- Works with the Board of Directors to fulfill the organizational mission in supporting the needs of the foster care community of Eastern Washington.
- Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board of Directors and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board of Directors to function and to make informed decisions.
Financial Performance and Viability:
- Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of Embrace Washington.
- Responsible for fundraising and developing essential strategies, including grant writing, to support Embrace Washington’s Mission.
- Responsible for the fiscal integrity of Embrace Washington, including submission to the Board of Directors the proposed annual budget, and regular financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
- Responsible for fiscal management anticipating operating within the approved budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
- Identifies, applies for, oversees and reports for funding that comes from both public and private sources. Including overseeing grant tracking and spend down processes to ensure funding sources are spent out according to funding guidelines and timelines.
Organization Mission and Strategy:
- Responsible for facilitating Embrace Washington’s programs that carry out the organization’s mission. Examples include; Wish Program, Duffels for Darlings, Welcome Boxes, Summer Program and Education Support Program.
- Responsible for strategic planning to ensure Embrace Washington can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
- Responsible for the enhancement of Embrace Washington’s reputation by being active and visible in the community and by cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with other non-profit, community, and civic organizations.
Organization Operations:
- Oversee and implement appropriate resources to ensure operations of the organization are appropriate.
- Responsible for the recruitment, hiring and training of competent, qualified staff and volunteers.
- Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other organizational contracts on behalf of Embrace Washington.
- Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.
- Supervise and collaborate with organization staff and volunteers.
- Facilitate strategic planning and implementation of annual goals and deliverables.
- Responsible for facilitating the planning and execution of the annual budget.
- Serve as the Embrace Washington primary spokesperson to the organization’s donors, volunteers, and other nonprofits in our community.
- Engage in fundraising and developing a variety of revenue streams.
- Oversee marketing and communications efforts.
- Establish administrative policies and procedures for all functions and the day-to-day operation of Embrace Washington.
- Develop strong relationships with foster families to cultivate a deep understanding of their needs and Embrace Washington services.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience working in the non-profit sector.
- Experience and skill in leading non-profit boards.
- Demonstration of high-level strategic thinking and planning with an ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the Board of Directors, volunteers, and donors.
- Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to donors, volunteers, and the overall community.
- A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial welfare.
- Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relationship skills and understanding the funding available in the community. Ability to maintain relationships with all other non-profits that serve foster children and families.
- Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications continued
- Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
- Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically and socioeconomically diverse audiences.
- Grant writing experience.
- Strong work ethic and high degree of energy. Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed based on schedule of events.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. This job requires the ability to work in stressful conditions from time to time and remain focused for extended periods of time. The ability to lift to 30 pounds (boxes, documents, and or equipment).
