What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ukrainian Support Worker position at EMCN?

THE CHALLENGE

Facilitate social, economic, and civic integrations of Ukrainian newcomers into the community and the society at large. Working closely with displaced Ukrainian newcomers navigating settlement and integration needs, coordinating services plans and providing information, resources, referrals, and interpretative services virtually and in person. As a member of the settlement team, contribute to group information sessions and workshops.

THE OPPORTUNITY

  • Coordinates and delivers tailored direct services including referrals in and outside the community and provide information relevant to client needs
  • Provides orientation services and needs assessment to clients. Provides information about and referrals to community resources
  • Provides guidance and support to clients experiencing difficulties with settlement and integration to assist them in problem-solving and accessing appropriate services and resources.
  • Offers interpretation services to clients to facilitate their access to community services such as Alberta Health enrolment, Social Insurance Number application, and Child Tax Benefits application.
  • Maintain records, statistics and all required documentation. Provides reports as required.
  • When possible, accompanies clients to appointments such as community services and government.

WHAT IT TAKES

  • Applied experience, knowledge, training and/or education in community support and outreach, human services, or social work
  • Knowledge of Immigration Policies, processes, and procedures
  • Proficiency in the Ukrainian language
  • Excellent Knowledge of Canadian Social Support Systems
  • Working understanding of the complexities of immigrant settlement issues; including housing, health, employment, and family dynamics
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to function in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and a strong commitment to providing quality services to Newcomers
  • Proficiency in MS Office computer applications, desktop publishing and spreadsheet software, video conferencing

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • Part-time employment until the end of August
  • Hourly pay of $23.09 and six percent vacation pay
