Position Summary
As part of the Innovative Digital Learning Experience Team (iDLX), the Senior Learning Designer/Multimedia Developer (SLD/MD) assists faculty and program staff with developing sound pedagogical strategies for developing curriculum at the Jones School of Business. The SLD/MD's process is grounded in instructional design theory, models, and best practices. They must also possess deep experience creating, developing, and maintaining eLearning within the academic and corporate communities. The SLD/MD works closely with faculty, program staff, subject matter experts, and vendors to enhance pedagogy and keep current with technology with an eye to the future. The SLD/MD assists in planning, creating, delivering, and maintaining new and existing online, hybrid, and in-person courses. The SLD/MD is also skilled in planning, developing, and maintaining appropriate media assets based on pedagogical needs. The SLD/MD possesses a wide range of multimedia development skills using various tools.
Essential Duties
- Assists with providing departmental leadership for using technology in teaching, learning, community building and / or research
- Oversees or provides assistance in the direct integration of technology into course curricula, extra-curricular or co-curricular learning, and / or research projects
- Leads the development of resources, seminars, courses, or workshops to disseminate information about uses of technology
- Actively encourages and supports the use of computer-based tools by developing and implementing new tools and resources for instructors or students, assisting them with the tools, disseminating knowledge of these tools throughout the program or university, and creating and supporting an infrastructure that allows use of the tools in research, teaching and / or learning
- Assists with coordination of academic learning technology policies, procedures, and support
- Leads projects to develop innovative uses of technology for research, student learning and / or community building
- Consults on development of software applications, or work with on- or off-campus resources to develop or adapt software solutions
- Consults with and help instructors and / or departments to incorporate technologies into faculty research projects, course design and curricula and / or co-curricula in support of student learning goals
- Stays abreast of educational technology research and participate in academic conferences
- Provides expertise and support in applying instructional design methodologies to the development, implementation, and evaluation of face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses
- Provides outreach and advocacy within and across departments for effective uses of educational technology
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
- 5 years of related experience of developing online learning experiences
- Strong demonstrated technical skills using the core technologies, or a demonstrated ability to learn those technologies, including but not limited to: course management systems, including Canvas; WebEx/Zoom collaboration tools; Panopto and Video asset management tools, Macintosh and PC platforms; Video capture and editing, instructional design and development tools.
- Knowledge and demonstrable, practical application of instructional design methodologies and best practices, adult learning principles, and instructor-led, computer-based, and web-deployed training programs
- Demonstrable technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrable information technology usage documentation skills
Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality, engaging online learning experiences for the Jones Graduate School of Business.
- Work closely with stakeholders to identify all learning design projects' scope, challenges, solutions, methodology, and impact.
- Produces engaging digital assets and multimedia solutions while adhering to quality standards, accessibility standards, student learning outcomes, and production timelines.
- Ensure all media assets meet current standards for digital accessibility as defined by the Jones Graduate School of Business.
- Conduct usability testing (QA) to ensure quality.
- Assist in creating systems or materials to gather feedback as part of an iterative design.
- Distribute and maintain developed multimedia content.
- Provide ongoing instructional design and technology support to instructors and staff to help improve and make use of professional development experiences.
- Demonstrate the ability to be an innovative and flexible thinker with strong problem-solving skills and excellent organization, time management, and multitasking abilities.
- Supervise team members for all aspects of media development (developers, voice-over actors, graphic designers, instructional technologists, etc.).
- Forecast and schedule all media development timelines and personnel.
- Provide learning design support to all student-facing video projects in collaboration with the Media Team.
- Coordinate with Media Team as needed to develop video assets.
- Coordinate with vendors as needed to support the media development process.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with diverse internal working teams to communicate project expectations and progress.
- Responsible for staying current on best practices in instructional design.
- Works with technical staff to troubleshoot media problems reported by users.
- Develop complex multimedia assets using Articulate 360, Rise 360, Adobe Captivate, Vyond, Visme, Adobe Creative Cloud, CenarioVR, and other development tools.
