What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nutrition Education Assistant position at Emergency Food Bank?
The Nutrition Education Assistant at the Emergency Food Bank teams with our Nutrition Educators to deliver fresh produce and educational instruction in our Food Bank’s innovative programs that combat food insecurity. With an emphasis on friendly, courteous service to clients and our community partners, the Nutrition Education Assistant has a significant role in our “Food as Medicine” Programs, the street outreach into Homeless Encampments, our 62 Mobile Farmer’s Market (MFM) sites, and Nutrition Education activities such as Health Fairs. The work involves interacting with clients, preparing educational experiences, materials, videos, and other media, assisting the Nutrition Educators in program development and working with them in giving cooking and nutrition classes as well as presentations and distributions at sites such as the Mobile Farmer’s Market and the many Health Fairs and events we participate in. Clerical responsibilities include collecting and inputting data, using spreadsheets and assisting with nutrition educators with necessary reports. You’re part of the Nutrition Education Team that is addressing food insecurity each day. This is a part-time (25-30 hours/week), non-exempt position.
Duties and Responsibilities
Typical essential duties may include, but are not limited to:
· Using a computer and Microsoft Office Suite programs such as WORD and EXCEL to prepare reports, memos, documents, and spreadsheets.
· Input data into online programs such as OASIS as well as spreadsheets kept by the EFB.
· Assist Nutrition Educators in the creation and publication of Nutrition Education materials for all Programs.
· Assist with the presentation of the Nutrition Education Programs to clients at various off-site locations throughout San Joaquin County.
· Effectively work with phone contact and email contact with Program contacts such as UOP, MFM sites, Health Net, Future Well Communities.
· Work with the Nutrition Educators to organize and arrange all materials and equipment (tables, produce boxes) and supplies needed for set up for Events at various locations.
· Help clean up after each site as directed by the Nutrition Educator.
· Conduct Street Outreach working with EFB teams in the Homeless Encampments throughout Stockton.
· Attendance at EFB events as needed.
· Assist the Nutrition Educators in delivering online education, ZOOM cooking classes, preparing and distributing educational material.
· The usual workweek is Monday through Friday, day shifts but additional hours may be required including holidays, evenings, and weekends for events that the Food Bank will participate in.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Subject to pre-employment drug test.

· Bilingual – Spanish preferred
· Must have a valid Class C California Driver’s License, proof of insurance and clean driving record.
Education and Experience
· High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
· Intermediate to expert familiarity with Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, and an ability to learn and successfully operate online data recording programs such as OASIS.
· This position can be a great apprenticeship experience for a college student.

· Continual, repetitive lifting, lowering, carrying and/or moving up to 30 lbs. of job-related materials to a height of 3-4 feet and load them into trucks, shelves or bins.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.
· Ability to work constantly in outdoor weather conditions.
