JOB DESCRIPTION: The Anesthesia Technician II performs all duties of an Anesthesia Technician I. Responsible for set up of invasive monitors and supports sophisticated equipment in anesthetizing locations and other patient care areas. Assists anesthesiology personnel with placement of invasive hemodynamic lines. Follows established procedures for equipment inspection. Tests equipment to ensure that it remains in proper operating condition. Performs lower level troubleshooting and takes corrective action to prevent hazardous situations. Ensures the availability of expendable laboratory and monitoring supplies by inspecting inventories and may initiating purchase requisitions. Stocks supplies and returns items to departmental storeroom upon receipt. Interacts positively with co-workers to ensure the flow of accurate and timely information between departments. Responds to emergency service requests made after regular working hours on a rotating basis. Assists in transporting post-operative patients to the Intensive Care Unit. Follows sterile technique principles and other infection control policies and standards to maintain a healthy work environment. Takes required precautions in keeping with JCAHO, organizational and other safety guidelines when working with electrical equipment. Equipment Checks: Responsibility Description: Performs daily apparatus equipment checks. Troubleshooting: Responsibility Description: Performs lower level troubleshooting and takes corrective action to prevent hazardous situations. Invasive Monitoring Support: Responsibility Description: Sets up and calibrates and assists with insertion of hemodynamic monitoring lines. Assists in transporting post-operative patients to the Intensive Care Unit. Disinfecting of Equipment: Responsibility Description: Cleans and disinfects contaminated key medical equipment after each use. Anesthesia Turnover and Stocking: Responsibility Description: Sets up, stocks and maintains specialty carts, machines, anesthesia agents, and IV fluids, including the exchange of medication trays after each use. Anesthesia Techs may be required to stock Medications Kits/ Cassettes, trays or carts. Anesthesia Techs may be responsible for returning used and unused Medication kits/cassettes or trays to the pharmacy or other designated areas. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of related healthcare experience as an Anesthesia Technician or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
