College and Career Counselor
Empower College Prep is seeking a College and Career Counselor who will lead and guide students collectively and individually to develop and pursue their post-high school educational plans that align to a career connected to their gifts, their interests, and the world’s needs. They will be an integral member of the High School Leadership and Administrative Teams in the shared pursuit of the vision of all people being empowered with the education, purpose, and character to transform their community, their country, and their world. The College and Career Counselor will be committed to the mission and values of Empower College Prep.
Empower College Prep began in 2012 with a commitment to be a movement of teachers partnering with parents to transform the educational and life opportunities of their children; and to empower these children to transform their community, their country, and their world.
In 2020, we sent our first graduating class of students to college, expanded to serve grades K-2, and welcomed more than 800 students onto a new, $20 million campus on the I-17 just north of Camelback.
Over the past two years, Empower College Prep has continued to exceed the state and national average for college enrollment despite poverty and the world-wide pandemic. Now, the Charter School is preparing to add preschool and codify its Pre-K - 12 program to ensure consistency and excellence on its Colter campus and additional campuses in future years.

The principal responsibilities of the College and Career Counselor will include:
- Counsel, support, and manage students directly and through Advisory teachers to plan and execute actions culminating in graduation with a Personal Life Plan, internship, college acceptance letter, and adequate financial aid.
- Perform administrative function aligned to student graduation and post-high school plans, including but not limited to planning Career and University Experiences; pulling, analyzing, and communicating data regarding student grades and credits; CCRI data submission; ECAP Plan Submission; Coordination of AP Program, Dual Enrollment Program, and ACT Test (separate from state testing); and managing relevant platforms (i.e. Synergy, Naviance, ACT Online Prep, and Summit).
- Collaborate and consult with parents, teachers, community organizations and other stakeholders, including the planning and execution of events such as FAFSA Night, College Night, and Parent Academy.
- Participate in development and execution of the school’s Advisory program.
- Participate in creation of Master Schedule and complete individual student scheduling for about half of the student body, including transcript verification for incoming students.
- Complete other duties as assigned, including but not limited to general support w/ special events (graduation, parent conferences, Signing Day, Freshman Academy, etc.)

The successful candidate will have the following special skills, certificates or training:
- Suicide prevention training required.
- Bi-lingual
- Well-versed in the ASCA School Counselor Professional Standards and Competencies
- Managing multiple projects and multi-functional teams in a fast-moving environment driving towards results that meet and exceed expectations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, to explain, encourage, inspire, and forge transformational partnerships with scholars, staff, families, colleagues, and community members.
- Ability to develop and monitor systems to accomplish goals and increase sustainability.
- Innovative problem-solver in complex, nuanced situations with multiple interests and parties involved.
- Maintain energy level and inspire others to increase effort and achieve outcomes amidst challenging circumstances.
- Familiarity with related platforms including Synergy (grading, scheduling, counseling), Naviance, and Summit
- General experience in this field: Individual student advising around college and career for 2 or more years; Service in College Access Programs (i.e. Be A Leader, Aguila).
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelors’ degree required, Master’s degree preferred, in related field such as School Counseling or Education.
- A Valid IVP (Identity Verified Print) fingerprint card within the first 30-days of employment.
- School Counseling License or related license (Licensed Professional Counselor or School Social Work) preferred.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
