Position Summary

At Empower, as the Supervisor of Sterile Compounding, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency in the production of compounded sterile preparations. This is a crucial and influential position where your daily oversight of production activities will ensure compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and our stringent quality standards.

 

In this leadership role, you will be at the forefront of our sterile compounding operations, ensuring precision and adherence to strict protocols. Your responsibilities will include compounding sterile preparations with accuracy, enforcing rigorous cleaning and garbing policies, and operating production equipment according to company regulations. Your expertise in aseptic techniques and meticulous preparation of work areas will be essential in maintaining the highest quality standards, safeguarding the well-being of the patients we serve.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the day-to-day production of compounded sterile preparations while strictly adhering to cGMP, compliance with master formula worksheets and department standard operating procedures.
  • Compounds sterile preparations accurately and ensures cleaning and garbing policy is performed per company regulations.
  • Performs calculations and completes documentation as required.
  • Operates all production equipment accurately and according to policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the utilization of correct and appropriate aseptic technique.
  • Prepares work areas thoroughly prior to production.
  • Operates and monitors technical, computerized, equipment ensuring quality standards are maintained.
  • Reviews documentation and ensures accuracy of data.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities, as necessary, within the department to provide the required support to ensure adherence to the production schedule.
  • Fosters a creative and collaborative work environment, encouraging teamwork, professional growth, and knowledge sharing among team members.
  • Provides mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members, supporting their growth and success within the organization.
  • Evaluates employee performance, provides feedback and coaching as needed. Prepares performance evaluations for employees.
  • Partners with department director to evaluate department headcount needs and participates in the interviewing process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently use their hands and fingers to handle or feel in order to access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. Employee must be able to fully gown in aseptic garb for extended periods of time (up to 4-6 hours). The employee is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time for consecutive days. Employee must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.


Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and self-motivated.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Skills-Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. 
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team to achieve goals.
  • Must be able to fully gown in aseptic garb for extended periods of time.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Previous compounding experience including vial filling experience preferred.
  • Registered with the Texas Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Sterile/Intravenous Certified (Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education)
