Overview
TRC is seeking Jr. Commissioning Engineers to support our Lancaster, PA office.
Responsibilities
Perform basic troubleshooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including but not limited to: Application Errors and Omissions, Drawing Errors and Omissions, Wiring Errors and Omissions, Settings Errors and Omissions, Equipment Malfunctions, Questionable Apparatus Test Results, Battery Ground Faults
Plan, coordinate, perform and document the commissioning of various utility substation protection, control and power circuits in accordance with TRC's and Client's requirements, budgets, schedule, and other project specific requirements and planning documents to ensure the intended operation and safety of equipment and personnel are met
Participate in project meetings including but not limited to: kickoff meetings, planning meetings, progress meetings, lessons learned meetings
Assist in developing project specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or any other assigned project specific documentation
Identify risks and associated mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment. Develop a Site Risk Assessment to document all high risk construction and commissioning activities and to formalize the processes of circuit isolation and restoration in a manner that ensures no unintended operations of station equipment and protection systems and personnel safety
Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation that includes project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results and analyses
Ensure proper project drawing management and general housekeeping is kept onsite at all times; Ensure Working/Field Copy of project drawings updated continuously throughout the project to ensure they accurately reflect the as-left condition of the project at the end of each day
Make certain all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents; Ensure all test results are acceptable and permanently recorded, filed and distributed properly
Develop detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment; Review detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment
Assist other engineers and technicians, as required, during commissioning and startup of systems and equipment
Conduct TRC's formal walkdown procedure prior to energizing any equipment
Examples of Equipment to be tested -- SF6/Oil/Vacuum Breakers, Circuit Switchers, Power Transformers, Capacitor Banks, Bus, CTs, PTs, CCVTs, Wave Traps, Disconnect Switches, Surge Arrestors, Regulators, Reclosers, Cables, DC Battery Banks, Grounding, Generators, Station Service Transformers, AC/DC Panels
Examples of tests to be performed -- SF6 Gas, Oil Sampling, Vacuum Bottle Integrity, Core-Ground Test, Insulation Resistance, Winding Resistance, Nitrogen System, Power Factor, Excitation, Sweep Frequency Response Analysis, Turns Ratio, Polarity, Dielectric Withstand, Motion Analysis, Operating Mechanism Inspection, Contact Resistance, Capacitance, Inductance, Impedance, Disconnect Jaw and Blade Alignment, Battery Strap and Cell Resistance/Specific Gravity/Load Tests
Qualifications
A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from an accredited school or University and zero to two years related experience and/or training is required. Prior TRC Substation completion is .
Be available for out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time with the Mid-Atlantic
Be available work flexible hours, weekends, overtime holidays and night work
Excellent verbal and written skills and be able to communicate and negotiate effectively with clients, agencies, and the general public
Strong PC skills and experience with Adobe and Microsoft programs
Valid driver's license issued by state of residence and in good standing is required
Ability to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
Intermediate understanding of electricity
Basic knowledge of (or the ability to learn) electrical protection systems, including relay communications. Basic understanding of (or the ability to learn) AC and DC schematics, wiring and drawings, one line and three line interconnection diagrams. Understand design intent of all protection and control (P-C) circuits
Basic testing knowledge of (or the ability to learn) medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment. Perform basic apparatus testing and interpret test results with supervision. Basic knowledge of and ability to learn test equipment specific software to accurately conduct and document test activities
Basic testing and commissioning knowledge of (or the ability to learn) substation utility protection and control circuits. Perform commissioning activities and interpret results with supervision. Basic knowledge of and ability to learn commissioning methods to accurately conduct and document commissioning activities
Ability to assist Test Technician or Senior Test Technician with apparatus testing
