Job Description
OVERVIEW & PURPOSE
Optimized IT is regional in scope, providing Managed IT Services from small to mid-sized organizations including Commercial Business, Not-for-Profit, and K-12 markets. We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer with good client communication skills and an appetite to solve problems.
The Project Engineer spearheads client onboarding, product deployment, and service enhancements. Acting as an escalation point, they collaborate with the NOC and Service Department, both internally and externally. On-call availability required. Reporting to the Director of Service and working closely with the Project Manager & Solutions Architect.

Essential Functions
- Mentor and train other members of the Service & NOC Team and seek to continually improve processes companywide
- Build and deploy of new client hardware (servers (physical or virtual), switches, firewalls, and/or SAN) via projects
- Receive escalated customer calls for trouble/technical support
- Cooperatively test and work with external vendors and partners
- Provide continual status updates to customers or project managers regarding tickets and projects
- Be proactive about challenges or constraints within a project and seek to manage them accordingly
- Provide detailed specifications for proposed solutions including materials, manpower and time necessary
- Assist other department engineers in creating practical demonstrations of proposed solutions and demonstrating them to other members of the team
- Expert understanding of Microsoft 365, Azure, Server platforms, and Exchange
- Expert understanding of Microsoft system management (AD, Group Policy, DNS, DFS, NPS, etc)
- Strong understanding of Storage solutions
- Strong understanding of Virtualization (VMware VCP a plus)
- Strong understanding of Networking (Advanced Routing Protocols, VLAN, NAT, BGP, etc.)
- Strong understanding of Firewalls (Familiarity with Sonicwall and Cisco ASA a plus)
- Experience with backup solutions
- Knowledge of and skill in scripting through PowerShell for automation efforts
- Some experience with mobile device management
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Good time management skills and able to multi-task
- Ability to work well and communicate with all areas of the company as well as external customers and vendors
- Highly motivated, energetic, self-starter
