Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join the Electrical Wiring Systems Pass and Seymour Team in Concord, NC. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and improvement of new and existing products. These activities must support the company's goals of increasing market share and profitability through creativity and innovation.
What Will You Do?
Work with the Marketing Product Line Manager to develop the product specification. Gain consensus on design with marketing and manufacturing. Determine the appropriate codes and standards, testing requirements, end user preferences and trends, and competitive product analysis.
Create sketches, 3D files and prototype designs to express all the different options that are used to satisfy the product requirements. Evaluate these concepts to choose the best design based on customer requirements. Create final 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using Pro-Engineer and other CAD software to refine, develop and finalize the design.
Designs, improves, maintains and implements processes (equipment, machines, fixtures, etc.) to meet operational needs through monitoring, feedback from manufacturing leaders, supervisors, maintenance activities, operators and personal observation. Establishes and maintain effective preventive maintenance schedules for all processes.
Develops manufacturing process plans which meet all manufacturing requirements for safety, ergonomics, process capability, quality and cost. Presents process concept proposals and implements approved processes on schedule and within budget. Identifies improvement opportunities for safety, cost, ergonomics, quality and process capability improvements.
Refine and complete product design through modeling, prototyping, testing, analysis, piloting, and inspection of processes and first articles. Work closely with Advanced Manufacturing, Tool Shops and Manufacturing to procure prototype and production product components.
Monitors quality of production and assures assigned processes are capable of producing at or above required quality levels. Perform root cause analyses, takes corrective action and designs/implements engineered solutions when appropriate to maintain effective compliance.
Produce and update necessary documentation to support production including engineering drawings and specifications, bills of materials, and quality requirements and testing.
Manage projects to rapid and effective completion including spanning departmental gaps.
Qualifications

Required Skills
Minimum BS Mechanical Engineering. Master's Degree desirable. Specific experience may serve to offset education
Experience
8 - 10 years manufacturing experience that has obtained specialized/expert experience that complements a broad base.
Plastic Extrusion experience and tool and die experience
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Must have broad understanding of Engineering principals, materials and manufacturing processes. Must demonstrate creativity in the development of new product design concepts.
Must possess excellent project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage to a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines and control a number of projects at various stages of work.
Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, e-mail and meeting management software. Ability to use internet and web based resources efficiently and effectively. Must be proficient with engineering design and engineering project management software.
Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities.
Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to maintain focus extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.
