***This position is for first shift: 5am to 1:30pm. Must have availability to work 10 hour days and half days on Saturdays.***
Job Summary: The Painter mixes paints, prepares surfaces, and applies paint or other coatings to decorate and protect the surfaces of company products. This individual receives limited supervision, develops work plans from specific assignments, and is expected to resolve most problems independently. Errors are easily revealed, especially when mixing and matching paint, but may result in excess labor and material costs. The Painter is expected to practice and adhere to the Company’s Six Sigma principles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties assigned as necessary:
- Reviews job orders Via ShopTrak and Visual Dispatch and interprets paint/coating specifications.
- Selects proper pre-mixed paints or coatings and application equipment or computes paint mixture formulas and mixes paints as necessary.
- Sets up/erects ladders/scaffolding as necessary to perform tasks above ground level.
- Prepares product surfaces for paint/coating application.
- Applies paints/coatings with spray equipment or by hand.
- Inspects painted/coated surfaces for coverage, flow and quality, measures thickness and viscosity.
- Cleans and maintains work area (daily), painting equipment, and other tools of the trade.
- Maintains inventory levels of supplies through order sheets and submits for purchase.
- Completes all governmental work sheets as required and submits to EHS Manager
- Completes all required customer paint quality documentation for compliance to IEA quality department for such customers like ENERCON or other customers as required.
- Works in a safe manner at all times.
- Ensures that all work is done in accordance with and adheres to IEA’s ISO and Quality standards.
- Understand KPI goals for paint department to meet requirements.
- Must be able to use Jib crane and properly lift cores.
- Secures all cores with a safety stop when moving inventory.
- Properly identifies and disposes of used filters and waste in appropriate hazardous storage container
- Reports any safety concerns immediately to Lead or management.

Physical Demands:
- Maximum lifting requirement (pounds): 50 (infrequently), 25 (frequently).
- Maximum moving requirement (pounds): 100.
- Maintaining physical condition necessary for the following: Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, squatting, and twisting upper body; occasional climbing or sitting.
- Working at heights off the ground up to: 20 feet.
- Vision requirements: Close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception.
Work Environment:
- Work location: Paint booth, metal fabrication/assembly shop.
- Exposure to: Fumes, airborne particles, wet/humid (non-weather) conditions, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts/equipment.
- Personal protective equipment requirement: Overclothing including coveralls and headgear, respirator, safety glasses, safety shoes, and ear protection.
Position Requirements:
- Key skills, abilities and knowledge:
- Working knowledge of the standard practices and methods in the wet painting trade.
- Ability to read and understand paint formulas, shop drawings, and blueprints.
- Knowledge of properties of paints, coatings and structural metals and related materials.
- Skill in using and maintaining painting equipment and related tools of the trade.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with others.
- Experiential: One or more years of industrial painting experience.
- Educational: Related technical training (high school or beyond) is desirable but not essential.
- Certificates, Licenses: Fork lift operator certification.
