What You Can Expect
As a (Rotating) Solar Technician, your day typically begins with a morning conference call involving all technicians in the region to discuss daily activities and determine which work site to report to.
Your responsibilities will range from site maintenance tasks like lawn care to diagnosing and resolving issues with solar panels, inverters, and trackers.
When your assigned site doesn't require immediate attention, you will be assigned to assist at other locations with troubleshooting and repairs.
Additionally, as a rotating Technician, you'll be called upon to support repairs or fill in for absent team members as needed.
This role involves frequent travel between sites, requiring you to possess a versatile skill set encompassing substation work, coordination of on-site contractors, and providing guidance and instruction.
You will be responsible for conducting site orientations, assigning task, and escorting contractors onsite, all while ensuring safety protocols such as creating Job Safety Analysis's (JSA's) and Lockout Tag Out (LOTO) procedures are followed.
Part of your duties may involve rotating solar panels to access vegetation and other maintenance tasks. To facilitate your travel, you will be provided with a company truck.
You'll be required to report to a designated location daily with the ability to return home nightly.
Given the travel demands, it's essential for you to reside in or near the South Boston area, within an hour's reach of all sites, which includes Bluestone-Chase, City, VA, Hawtree Warrenton, NC, Powell's Creek Alton, VA, Sunnybrook-Scottsburg, VA, and White Horn-Gretna, VA.
What You'll Bring
Minimum of a two (2) years diploma in a technical program where you have learned AC / DC electrical theory, and gained an understanding of how to read blueprints and schematics
You should have knowledge of industrial electrical equipment including breaker, disconnects, transformers, contactors
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in Solar generation sites, Wind generation sites, Thermal power plants, Manufacturing or Mining operations, or Controls & Industrial Maintenance
- Must have or be willing to obtain certification as substation technician within 12 months of hire date
- Capacity to be on call as deemed necessary by supervisor
Additional Details
- This is a field position requiring regular travel to local solar sites and client site(s)
- This role requires daily attendance at a worksite
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license / clean driving record to drive company vehicle on and around the plant
- Must be willing and able to comply with ENGIE's policy with respect to COVID vaccination and testing
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
- The position consists of 20% work indoors and 80% work outdoors; outdoor work may expose the employee to weather conditions
- Could involve some lifting / up to 50 lbs
Compensation
Salary Range : $34.49-51.05 USD hourly
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan and emergency, or on-call pay.
