The Pratt Library is accepting applications for a Librarian II position for the Central Library Earl Teen Center for Learning and Leadership. The Teen Center at the Central Library is space just devoted to teens! It has a large collection of books as well as graphic design quality computers, virtual reality headsets, a classroom with state of the art AV gear, a recording studio, a dedicated maker space, and it's own circulating Library of Things collection! If you can think of a program that will help empower teens to make their mark on the world, you will be able to do it here! The Earl Teen Center is an inclusive, safe space aiming to enrich the lives of Baltimore City Teens. The space is equipped for hands-on learning and creation with sewing machines, laser printers, crickets, heat presses, a professional sound and video production studio and much more.
The ideal candidate will support the Creation Station, STEM, teen leadership development, creative arts, audio visual technology access through technology training, career readiness and workforce development.
This position reports to the department manager.
Public Service
Works with the Manager to ensure materials in the space support the curriculum of Baltimore City Schools (public, private and specialized).
Provides reference and programming services to teens locally and statewide who
access the library as walkin, telephone, and remote library customers.Provides assistance in the development of specialized programs for the teen
audience as well as the selection of print and electronic books, resources, and databases for Library customers.Serves on committees related to Library public service.
Participates with Library staff in planning special library programs for intended
audience.Monitors the collection of activity and data and assists in the formulation of weekly, monthly and annual reports.
This position may include introductory level management including interviewing and hiring staff, participating in staff development, and working with staff who are struggling in order to help them improve their performance and achieve their career goals. The Librarian II should be comfortable having honest conversations about performance with other staff in the department.
Outreach
Works in collaboration with Library staff in planning subject specific public
programming,Develops web based subject resources designed to meet the information needs, life
long learning objectives, and entertainment interest of Library teen customersWorks with City institutions and organizations to create awareness of Teen Center Programming, and facilitates outreach both onsite, offsite and at branch libraries.
A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university. Two years experience in a public library, school, or other youth services organization working directly with teens required.
Experience with teen programming and related outreach and public service work preferred.
Understanding of public service preferably in a public library setting; good oral and
written communication skills; proficiency with the use of the Google & Microsoft Suite of programs;
