Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Monitor real-time Local Balancing Authority (LBA) operations in a safe and reliable manner.
- Balance hourly net actual interchange with adjacent BAs/LBAs for daily submission to MISO.
- Monitor GMS/SCADA systems to ensure accurate meter data representations for real-time and after-the fact energy accounting.
- Support MISO BA in performing Emergency Operations to include system restoration and load shed if necessary.
- Coordinate and communicate with MISO, TOP, SERC, SPO/EMO, LBA Meter Data Services, External BAs/LBAs, and all Embedded Entities within the LBA footprint to ensure system reliability.
- Analyze and react to real-time conditions and take proactive measures to influence forward plans to ensure system reliability.
- Manage real-time operations of generation portfolio, including dispatching of units, compliance with internal Operating Guides and Procedures as well as NERC performance standards.
- Communicate with the Energy Management Organization, MISO, Transmission Control Centers, and Transmission Operators taking necessary actions to ensure the reliability of the Entergy footprint. Including, but not limited to, coordinating unit availability, testing, outage schedules, unit startup and shutdown times, and communicate all necessary information to plant personnel and market operations personnel.
- Has the authority to take or direct timely and appropriate real-time actions without obtaining approval from higher level personnel.
- Maintain rotating shift schedules 12-hour shifts and adhere to all compliance measures and support initiatives as requested.
Minimum education
- Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, engineering or equivalent power system operations work experience
- System Operator I: 0-2 Years (No NERC Certification required but required within 12 months of employment)
- System Operator II: 2-4 Years (NERC RC, BA, or BI&T required)
- System Operator Sr: 4-6 Years(NERC RC, BA, or BI&T required)
- Thorough knowledge of RTO/Power Pool markets and operations, Power Plant and/or Power System Operations
- Ability to perform analysis from a large volume of data with conflicting results and determine the best solution with superior results
- Able to perform all job task with no assistance
- Demonstrates the ability to acquire knowledge of relevant real-time issues
- Able to direct shift activities and serve a leader with little or no supervision from management
- Able to work a 12-hour shift schedule in support of a 24X7 operation
- NERC Certified System Operator Reliability Coordinator, Balancing, or Balancing, Interchange, and Transmission required for Operator II and above.
