OVERVIEW:

EnviroFlight's mission is to develop technology that produces sustainable and safe animal feed ingredients using the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) (Hermetia illucens). Our technology enables the mass rearing of insect larvae, feedstock conditioning and mixing, insect life support systems, nutrients recovery, animal feed production, and cold press oil extraction and refining.


JOB SUMMARY:

EnviroFlight Operations Technicians carry out various tasks associated with the production of BSF dried larvae and frass, as per standard operating procedures (or as directed by EnviroFlight senior management).


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include:

  • Participates in the operations involved with breeding, growing, processing and further processing of BSF and BSF larvae using both manual labor and mechanized equipment.
  • Monitors, inspects and records data on larvae and frass quality, using both manual and mechanized equipment and computerized systems.
  • Responsible for the carrying, lifting or moving of BSF, larvae, meal, oil and frass between operational areas.
  • Cleaning and maintaining operational equipment and facilities, including washing and sanitizing equipment and other janitorial duties, as required.
  • Travel between EnviroFlight buildings may be required (local travel).
  • Performs other duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver's license and auto insurance as required by the State of Kentucky.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Must be able to work rotating 12-hour schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One to three years of related work experience and/or training in animal care, mechanical systems, ingredient or food processing or related field.
  • Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment or in a plant with a small team manufacturing workflow desirable.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and work independently, in areas requiring both manual labor and administrative record keeping.
  • Competence in basic math skills with legible handwriting.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for use of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors and management.
  • Respect for diversity and an ability to work with diverse teammates, customers, individuals and organizations.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality about the company and its proprietary processes and information; a Confidentiality Agreement is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The employee must occasionally lift, using assisted devices, and /or move 250 pounds barrels, as well as continually lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard.
  • Frequently work near moving mechanical parts; occasionally work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals.
  • Allergens may be present in insect-rearing facilities, most relevant for individuals with shellfish allergies.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • All employees must be willing and able to work indoors and outdoors around the insects used in production, to be exposed to hot and cold temperatures, potentially unpleasant odors, and mechanical equipment used for production.
  • Hard hats, safety shoes, rubber or latex gloves, and other protective equipment must be worn as required.
  • Specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles used, ex. forklift, processing equipment.
