Compensation: $500/week (26 weeks) health insurance (if needed). Support with housing, training, and travel costs to the site and back home are covered by the program.

Position Description:

Interns will participate in 26 weeks as a Resource Assistant on the Idaho Panhandle National Forest for the Recreation Special Uses Program in maintaining and enhancing the Forests recreation special uses by contributing resources to enhance volunteer engagement, maintaining existing partnerships, and developing new relationships with governmental, non-governmental, non-profit, tribal government, media, academic, and other organizations to support Volunteer Program projects that result in high priority conservation work consisting of:

  • Maintaining and enhancing relationships with partners, permit holders, and other stakeholders
  • Participating in the Forest’s Recreation working group and Program of Work discussions
  • Working across resource and district boundaries is part of a dynamic and challenging Forest to provide innovative solutions
  • Providing support with initiating partnerships which may include facilitating and assisting the volunteer program by collaborating with partners and staff to support the Forest Service mission
  • Ensures Volunteer Program work aligns with the Forest Service Volunteer Strategy and the Sustainable Recreation goals of citizen stewardship, workforce development, community enhancement, strategic partnerships, and customer service

Work Products: During the internship, the intern will:

  • Create weekly blog posts shared on social media informing on the internship experience and work projects
  • Gain expertise, leadership, and administration of outfitters & guides, recreation events, and other uses
  • Assist in developing long-range plans for managing recreation resources within developed and dispersed recreation sites on the unit
  • Recommendation strategies to deal with identified problems arising from changing use patterns and new activities

Intern Qualifications:

  • Ability to take directions and work independently
  • Ability to work well with coworkers and function effectively as a member of a team

Job Types: Full-time, Internship

Pay: $500.00 per week

Experience:

  • Tree care: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Certified Arborist (Preferred)

Willingness to travel:

  • 25% (Preferred)
