Are you ready to take your payroll leadership to the next level? Join EPCOR as a Payroll manager at our vibrant US Corporate office in Phoenix, Arizona! In this dynamic role, you’ll lead our bi-weekly payroll operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly and on time. You’ll collaborate closely with Human Resources to create and set up job titles, maintain accurate payroll records, and provide top-notch customer service to our employees while maintaining a keen eye toward continuous improvement.
What you’d be responsible for
- Oversee the timely and accurate processing of the full payroll cycle from time entry to payment on a biweekly basis for all US based employees, as well as payroll related returns, remittances and payments.
- Develop and manage a strong team of employees, including recruitment (as applicable), retention and development.
- Develop, implement and review payroll processes to ensure compliance with policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensure mitigation of risks.
- Manage and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Manage the payroll accounting and reconciliation process and partner with the accounting team to identify and work through variances.
- Process and establish shadow payroll for cross border employees working collaboratively with other EPCOR payroll representatives and external tax advisors.
- Liaise with our external payroll provider regarding new or existing payroll set up questions or changes.
- Act as a subject matter expert in New Business development payroll-related process or impacts.
- Reconcile all payroll taxes and unemployment taxes to the general ledger and investigate variances.
- Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state and local regulations, SOX compliance, and HR policies.
- Research and troubleshoot payroll discrepancies and resolve any payroll related issues.
- Work well in a high pace environment and under pressure, while meeting deadlines.
- Review quarterly payroll tax reporting; research and resolve payroll/tax reporting issues and participate in Payroll Audits.
- Balance bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly payroll & General Ledger.
- Ensure all payroll related accruals and account reconciliations are performed timely and accurately.
What’s required to be successful
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field. Certified Payroll Professional designation is an asset.
- Minimum of three years of experience managing payroll function for 500 employees including supervision of employees.
- Plus a minimum of five plus year’s payroll experience related to a multi-state payroll process and cross border assignments.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and payroll best practices as well as federal, state (Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas) and local tax regulations.
- Extensive knowledge of ADP and Oracle or similar systems.
- Solid organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail and time management
- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships across the organization.
- Ability to assess opportunities for process improvement and implement accordingly.
- Excellent quantitative, analytical, and problem solving skills as well as strong communication skills.
- Proficient with payroll software (ADP, Oracle, Workforce Now or equivalent).
- Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel required.
- Strong leadership ability, with a history of making sound business decisions, and excellent interpersonal skills.
