Job Summary

The Clinic Laboratory Technician performs a wide variety of laboratory analyses by methodologies that vary from basic and moderately complex according to established standards and procedures in order to obtain valid data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Utilizes and maintains high technology, scientific equipment and recognizes and resolves testing problems and invalid or inconsistent test data. Collects laboratory specimens by venipuncture and capillary puncture for subsequent testing and collects throat culture specimens. Demonstrates a commitment to professional accountability and growth to maintain and expand knowledge and skills. Contributes to the achievement of the mission and philosophy of the Organization. Contributes to the effective operations of the Organization by demonstrating dependability in job performance. Exhibit the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).

Working Conditions, Hazards and Physical Effort

Potential exposure to laboratory chemicals that may be toxic, caustic, or flammable. Moderate physical exertion with moderate to marked stress levels. Moderate noise level due to centrifuges and other instrumentation. Light to moderate lifting of supplies. Numerous phone calls and interruptions. This job involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. independently. A flexible work schedule is required.

Minimum Qualifications or Equivalents
-
Education: Acquired technical or specialized skills normally associated with a training program of less than two years duration beyond successful completion of high school or equivalent. Suitable experience would substitute for education.

Experience: One to three years laboratory experience preferred with proven competency skills. Computer skills, medical terminology required.

EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Automated and non-automated laboratory instrumentation and tools.

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations

CMA or certification as a phlebotomist preferred.
