Job Description:
Summary: Works under direct supervision to learn the proper handling of all specimens received in the Central Accessioning department. This position is responsible for specimen tracking all bar coded specimens received in the Central Accessioning area delivering them to the various testing laboratories within the Center for Clinical Laboratories.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Emptying and sorting specimens from pneumatic tubes.2. Sorting, scanning and placing bar-coded specimens on the robotic lines. 3. Pick up accessioned specimens from the accessioning stations and delivering them to the appropriate testing locations within the Center for Clinical Laboratories.4. Returning empty pneumatic tubes to nursing units.5. Occasionally provide coverage for transporters, picking up and delivering specimens and reports from throughout the Medical Center. 6. Any other duties as assigned by the Manager/Supervisor or his/her designee7. Attend regularly scheduled monthly staff meetings to keep appraised of procedural changes and to assist in the resolution of department questions and concerns. Describe Work Environment1. Standing, walking, sitting, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, twisting, reaching, handling, kneeling, and wrist dexterity.2. Speaking, hearing, and visual acuity to receive and interpret instructions.3. Verbal and written English communication skills for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards.4. Maintain orderliness and cleanliness in working area.5. Works with and handles Biohazard specimens.
Education Requirement:
High School/GED or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Minimum Related Experience1. Some PC knowledge (Word, Excel etc.)2. Understanding of HIPPA regulations3. Excellent oral and verbal communication skills4. Ability to multi-task Minimum Computer SkillsBasic to Intermediate Level of knowledge in computer i.e., MS WordGeneral SkillsExcellent in verbal and oral communication.
