Role Summary
The Equiniti Group, the second largest shareholder services company in the U.S. market, is looking to appoint a US Tax Manager. Reporting to the UK-based Director of Tax, this role will be responsible for coordinating all tax related activities, including federal and state income tax compliance, tax provision, sales and use tax compliance for the Group's US entities. The US Tax Manager will work closely with the US finance team and act as the lead resource for all corporate tax-related issues.
Core Duties/Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Acts a resource for tax questions relating to the Group's US entities.
- Handles all income tax and sales tax audits
- Is the US tax resource for strategic projects, including mergers and acquisitions
- When necessary, brings in third party CPA firms to assist with various projects and manages the relationships with those third parties.
- Performs tax research to identify and implement appropriate guidance for complex transactions.
- Oversee the work of third-party tax specialists with respect to the preparation of the periodic GAAP and Statutory tax provisions as well as the federal, state, and local tax returns, including ensuring timely filing of returns and remittance of associated tax payments.
- Responsible for the overall monthly/quarterly/annual close processes for the US entities, including accuracy of the related tax general ledger accounts.
- Ensures appropriate controls and policies are in place over accounting for income taxes and is responsible with assisting in the performance, documentation, and accuracy of all narratives and controls.
- Advises on the preparation of the annual budget, periodic reforecasts, and strategic plan as it relates to taxes.
- Responsible for communication with tax regulators as applicable.
- Responsible for execution and oversight of special projects and other appropriate duties as directed.
Skills, Capabilities and Attributes
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following experience, skills and behaviours:
- Strong understanding of federal, state and local tax law
- High level of comfort with GL/ERP software
- High level of proficiency with spreadsheet applications.
- Able communicator, capable of communicating tax and accounting concepts to accountants and non-accountants alike.
- Capable of analyzing workload and prioritizing well.
- Capable of learning new software and processes quickly.
- Familiarity with sales tax laws, registration, and management.
- Familiarity with federal and state tax laws, registration, and management.
- Experience with international structure and taxation is highly desired.
- Minimum of 3-5 years post qualification experience in corporate tax and tax accounting.
Education
- Bachelor's degree preferred with focus on Business, Accounting, Finance
- CPA required
